I don't know man, it depends. If you politely direct someone to walk into an oncoming bus, you'd be considered a bit fake.

Well, I was considering the fact that I'm very reserved about my personal perspective on drug usage.
In addition to this, I'm generally pretty quiet, and a Physics student.

Due to this, I presume, people often assume that I'm not "about that life" but, at least in moderation and good health, I very much am. I often tend to keep this a secret from people who I feel wouldn't 'like' me too much if they knew. It's not that I actively deny it, but I avoid participating in conversations which may reveal my position on the matter.

Secretive and guarded? Perhaps. If you actively deny it then that makes you a liar but still not fake, imo. You'd be fake if you publicly held the position of being against it but indulged in private.

If you keep quiet during those conversations and people assume you are against it then that is on them - Their guesswork is not your responsibility. They may well react badly if they find out and blame you but deep down it's only because they feel foolish for jumping to conclusions. Whether they ever realise that or not is another issue.

Additionally, imo it's probably best to keep stuff like that on the QT if the field of employment you are looking to enter frowns upon it.

Sounds pretty fake. I totally understand. But yes, this is a type of fakeness. You are in the closet.

What kind of drugs are we talking about? You riding the crocodile?

Use a bong in the middle of your high street, that way enough people would know without you having to engage in conversation about it
