I think it's stupid when producers who are label owners put out major releases on other labels..
It's like owning a roofing business but having someone else fix your roof.

Because your job is to promote and get these tunes heard. Giving your album to someone else to do this, from a business standpoint, makes it seem like you find yourself incapable of doing the job.
And yes, I understand that there are some opportunities it presents that can trickle down to your own label, etc., I'm not an idiot, just thought I'd post my unpopular opinion in the unpopular opinions thread, not the "straight talk record labels" thread ._.
And Nevalo, your analogy doesn't really work.. my analogy was that the roofer/business owner (producer/label owner) had another company (label) fix (distribute) his house (album).
Your analogy makes it seem like the roofer is fixing someone else's house, not someone else fixing his house.
I'm just saying from a business aspect it makes the person appear to not believe in their own brand. And notice I said "major releases", not like singles and stuff.
Just an observation guys, come on.

Maybe the track they're releasing doesn't fit the style of their label.

Well that'd be one thing, but the specific incident that brought on my post is a midrange producer/label owner releasing their debut album on a different midrange label.

Kode9 owns Hyperdub, yet has releases on Tempa, Souljazz, Studio !K7, On-U Sound...does the same principle apply?
