I think that one thing that's important to mention is that most americans, and I use the term most is as general a form as possible, think that brostep is all there is to dubstep.. So when you try to tell them that there is a whole nother side to the scene they just laugh you off as not knowing anything

I've recently started saying "weird underground UK stuff" (I know, I sound a mad hipster )

And then if they inquire further I'll name some artists.

I just mumble and change the subject.

usually changes the subject quick enough for me to not feel uncomfortable due to the fact i have to listen to someone cum themselves while reminiscing about the skrillex show they went to a few weeks before

And if they ask for more info they aren't making small talk, they might want to actually know because they like music or whatever.
