Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Got taken dmz last year. been rdg the forum for a while. dip in and out of things, a.d.d. child, journalist, student, bedroom dj. no money for records due to bizarre decision to b student for 3 more years. live vicariously thro others' discussions of fine releases. yes dubstep is like lost! mystery, eeriness, suprise, moments of uncanny beauty. innit.
Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
I finally found the newcomers section..haha.
New to the forum, got into dubstep maybe like 5 years ago(I'm 31 btw), and have been trying to make my own tunes for about a year now(actually longer, but all of my original works got corrupted). I have always had an ear for music so I thought, maybe I should try mixing my own stuff and whatnot.
My tools of the trade are FL Studio 10 Producer Edition and set of Skullcandy Hesh 2.0 Headphones...lol.

moot0ne here - I have already found a lot of good tips and advice...will need more.
I know I like dubstep, still a little unclear as to what qualifies as dubstep, but I'm sure it's around here somewhere. I've already had a hoot reading through the bruv V. dub-step threads. I started off with NOISIA - I think that qualifies, though it can be quite rough. Then I heard Skrillex VIA stumbleupon. Then I decided, given the varying opinions, and let me tell you I felt very odd about myself the day I discovered the term brostep, I'd dig in. That led to Skream, Rusko and around and around, discovered Spor (or feedme?) etc. etc. A bunch of others I found here in the forum that blew me away and made me feel even more feeble, but HEY! I have fun. I tend to gravitate more toward super glitched out, odd rhythmic bits, but what's good is good and I think we all know it when we hear it.
I've been writing and recording since I was a young punk with a four-track. I just recently started really finding my way around Logic 9, creating synth sounds, learning about additive synths in general and started really paying more attention to carving up EQ and using compression etc. I used to just plug and chug (analog instruments etc) and wondered why my mixes sounded SHITE. It wasn't until I got into 100% electronic sounds and music that I became interested in the wave and mixes themselves and how to make them work. Still working on that.
Man, that's long-winded. I'm getting ready to make my first post. Be kind
...but not TOO kind. I am here to learn.

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
I've been a house party DJ for close to 7 years; trying to move my way into the clubs now. I was mainly into turntablism (Qbert is my idol) and used to spin nothing but hip-hop/R&B/top40, but this year my sets have been dubstep heavy. I made the switch because it seemed to me that DJs that play dubstep or EDM in general have a lot more fun; that may not necessarily be the case, but I have had way better time putting together my sets and playing them nowadays. I've been using Traktor Pro, but Virtual DJ still holds a place in my heart. I'm thinking of switching over to Ableton...
I had been listening to 6Blocc (R.A.W.) years before I started DJing; I eventually got into Bassnectar, ill.Gates (The Phat Conductor), Dieselboy, 12th Planet, Nero, and Feed Me (Spor) just to name a few. But honestly, I listen to just about everything (translation: too many people to name). Well, if there's anything else you'd like to know, just ask! Until then, I'll be digging through the forums and adding a few wrinkles to my brain...

Easy all. I'm Tom/Auxi, i've been producing for about 3 years now, but have kept it on the down low so that I can refine my sound, which i've finally stepped into in the last 6 months.
I don't like to limit myself to genres but i'm into a lot of minimal stuff recently (Med School, WR/WX, Tempa).
Here's my soundcloud - (www.soundcloud.com/auxiofficial)
I've recently won a competition with Dub-All Or Nothing for the 1uP remix competition with something a little different, with a preview on my soundcloud, it's getting a release on the 28th August 2012. I'm not producing a number of different styles, all relatively minimal and have a fair few projects in the works. I've got big plans for the future, so I decided to sign up to this website to broaden my knowledge and network.
Look forward to getting to know you all!

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Sounds good! Are going to be adding some to soundcloud?
Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Yeah I will be, getting masters back on a couple before I upload there though and there should be a couple of free tracks floating about which I will post in the free tune section of this site

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Hey everyone,
new member/artist here.
Calling myself Nologix. I'm 19 years old, from Germany and am producing music since about march this year.
I'm fascinated by music since always as long as I can remember back.
Music makes at least 2/3 of my whole life. From listening to going to concerts or festivals or talking about it with friends, to producing it.
The genres my music can be considered to belong to are Chillstep (btw. I'm wondering about how popular Chillstep is in this forum, are there many artists and fans of it here?) and Liquid Drum N' Bass. Chill and emotional music is my style.
Even though when it comes to what I listen to I need to say "everything", no matter how much I hate to say that. haha. I hate getting the answer "everything" when asking someone what music he listens to, but then again, by now I HAVE to say it too.
I used to be a huge narrow minded Metalhead, but then I got more open minded and explored the worlds of punk music, indie music, folk music, shoegaze, ambient and of course electronic music, .... and I could go on with the list for some time.
Hope to have a good time here meeting other Dubstep enthusiasts and artists.

Hey Guys, names Daniel, I am from Australia. Getting into dubstep in the last few months, on alot of online forums for my other intrests (fishing, kayaking, aquariums). Currently looking to upgrade my headphones from ipod earphones to overears. So I'll be seeking your opinions on that. Looking foward to learning all about dubstep. Love my bass drops and heavy dubstep sound. Currently listening to alot of Epic Network Dubstep on youtube, if anyone could point me to some other sites that would be good. Thanks Guys.

Where in Australia are you from? If you're in Victoria I could point you to some Melbourne club nights you should check out.Puggy wrote:Hey Guys, names Daniel, I am from Australia. As for Epic Network Dubstep, I'd never heard of it until now but I can guarantee that 95% of people on this forum including myself will think everything on there is awful. I'll show you a few examples of the dubstep people round here are into, but I reckon it'd be kind of pointless if your only way of listening is with iPod earbuds. Trust me, you don't know about bass drops if that's all you've heard them with. Gotta get yourself some speakers with a decent sub.
Anyhow, here's a few examples anyway. I can't really point you to a better site for dubstep than Dubstep Forum though.

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
Hi there!
I never do these introduction things in forums, but I thought this might be different, since so many cool producers and music enthusiasts reside here.
I'm Fares, half Polish half Syrian, and until last year I used to be a concert pianist, only classical music and stuff, used to live in Washington DC prior to changing my life and moving to London. When I decided to stop everything in my career and start all over I also liberated my musical tastes, and by moving to London I met many cool people that took me to DnB and Dubstep raves.. and this kinda changed my life. Now I spend most of my time on Logic trying to make up a a 140 bpm beat and a subbass .. still beginner at production, but I eat those wobbles everyday now. For the time being, I use Logic, Focusrite 2i2, NT1A, NI Massive (obviously), Sylenth1, some Waves plugins, and collect samples from magazines and internet. Education wise I have done the first certificate in Logic, read few good books but the thing I enjoy most is macprovideo and groove3 and others (not trying to advertise anything here).
If you were interested in hearing me play in the times where I was a concert pianist, here you go few links. I haven't played the piano for a year now! something I never thought I'd say! one link is my old youtube channel with some old videos, and the other is my performance from the Int'l Chopin Competition in 2010.
Hope I haven't said too much! Kudos !

Re: newcomers -> introduce yourself here
What's up with that? I think you guys don't know what chillstep actually means. It's a very very small genre. You probably think when some people say Chillstep they mean artists like digital mystikz, Vex'd or old Skream stuff or whatever. Sure there are some stupid people who call "less dirty" dubstep "chillstep" but that's not what the people like me, who know about true chillstep mean with it. Have you ever heard about artists like Sizzlebird, JacM or nExow?ehbrums1 wrote:Say chillstep one more time....Nologix wrote:The genres my music can be considered to belong to are Chillstep (btw. I bet no, so... Please don't insult others when they say Chillstep because they might mean something that you just have no clue about.
