nice tune, did you use reason's malstrom with the elektronic wave? AKA froggy bass
Nope, twas the subtractor. Very underrated synth imo.
@BasicA - Actually really digging this. Really nice feel to the vibes comin off those strings. Sounds really bizarre and original, props. Shame your not up for doing more to it really cos I think with a bit more love it could be even better. Sounds a bit bare still and the mixdown isn't perfect but there's a great idea behind it all.
@Samkablam - Good track, have to say I really can't stand that screeching noise that I think is in the background at the start but really comes up when the drums start to appear. Makes the track unlistenable when without it it would be a really nice chilled tune. Bit bare at times so could do with some more wee incidentals in the background. Otherwise it's sounding good, nice mixdown and everything. You REALLY need to get rid of that horrible screeching noise though, I actually feel a bit nauseous listening to it :\
@Ratraceproducing - Really like the 'drippy' percussion in this, good vibes going on too. Mixdown sounds a little rough and some of the synthesis is a bit basic. Overall it's sounding good, general premise of the tune is nice but could do with some work on the technical side. Tune gets a bit boring after a while but would be fun to dance to in the sunshine.
@Grime Syndicate - (Cheers, it took me aaaages to think of a name I liked, glad the time wasn't put to waste XD) Kinda cool tune, the mixdown needs some work, kick drum gets kinda lost and the bass feels swamped, think you need to eq out some of the low end from some pads or summat. Good effort for only a few months producing I have to say. The wobbly midrange bassline is real generic sounding and could do with a wee bit of reverb or something on it. Overall it's a real good effort, the things you need to work on most are your eq/mixdown and the synthesis of your 'midline'. Drum composition is pretty good but needs to be brought forward in the mix. Good atmosphere in this track though man, lot of good elements there, just need to really refine everything.
@The Jester - Like the intro synth thingy and the drop is kinda cool I guess but gets old quite quickly. Sounds very unfinished to me and like there's barely any EQ being used here. Work on your mixdown, try adding small amounts of reverb to the midlines, take them down in the mix a bit and add some EQ!
Right, after that epic barrage of feedback I have a new tune for crit

tis called 'Dry Ice' and is very different from the last one I posted up.
If you gimme feedback then you'll get some back, link will be posted in the next hour.

Cheers for that dude, the first version had a much larger stabby synth in there but although was a bit more full kinda took the simple progressive sound i was going for. Spent fooking hours on the mix down aswell but im struggling a bit with my highs and high mids. I want that sort of mushy airy feel to the main synth but i find im having to cut it ALL off to get any kind of clean sound out of it. But thats the fooking sound im after so i dont want to change the synth again. Its got to the point where im changing stuff on it and going backwards and forwards and its killing my inspiration on it. So i think it will stay as it this time. Its much more crisp this time round in terms of the melodies being seperated and the percussion has been brought forward.
I actually tried to make this as "un-technical" as possible lol. Wanted this kinda "drippy" 4am perc to it and keep it smooth. The main synth is very basic, it is a simple 3osc sq wave with LFO on the cut off, lots of mid, cut the highs and lots of reverb lol. The plucky synth is a bit more complicated. Its just a 5osc synth this time (z3ta) but it has 2 sawtooth set at 0 semi and 1 synced saw wave as +12, white noise at up 2 octaves, shit loads of drive on the amp out put, nest to no release, no attack. short sustain aswell. again with tons of mid/high reverb and some Pinged delay that alternately pans. I also Compressed the shit out of it to get it to pump off the main synth. was farely happy with the results. Hammered the automation on this aswell all manually to so the thing has about 100 patterns in FL lol.
Tried to keep everything very subtle again hence why bass is smooth and the cutoff automation does not cut all the way out and leaves a bit chunk of sub low in there

.
Still farely new to producing dubstep i did alot of house and "dance/Trance" music when i was younger, so tstill pletny to learn!
!peace cheers to all that have commented!

paravrais: really like that track, that sub puts the dub back in dubstep
two things tho: i'm not really feeling that bell-ish synth coming in at around 1.20, idk i think its too simple, i prefer the arpeggiated (right ?) version coming in in the end around 4.36 and i find the right panned synth in the second part sounds weird, like it would be better in the center of the stereo field, but that may be cause i'm listening on headphones
still, overall really well done

Yeah I think that's the best plan. Usually when I get advice on a tune I've just finished I'll go back and tweak a couple of the easy things to fix but most of it I put to one side to use on the next track. Otherwise you can get bogged down trying to make one tune the best thing ever and you eventually end up ruining it cos you've worked on it too long. Also it can be easier to implement things if you have them in mind when you start to build a track from scratch.
From your comment you posted after I gave feedback it sounds like you might be trying almost too had to get everything at the front of the mix, it's OK to have some things in the background you know

have you read 'the moneyshot thread'?? I think it could really help you if you can bare to trawl through it XD Also are your basslines being made with one synth EQ'd on it's own? because that could be partly why your mixdown feels so swamped. For best results you want to have a pure sine sub with seperately EQ'd layers on top of it. This can be achieved however you want i.e. resampling, parallel EQ, multiple instances of the synth etc but should really help if your not doing it already
EDIT: The new tune is now available as part of a wee free EP which I have uploaded onto sendspace and posted in the Dubs forum :p

you know what, i done TONS of work with synth layering when i was making alot of house and trance. I might chop the lows out of the synth and layer it and see what it sounds like. I love layering synths but i was just experimenting with sub bass to be fair. When making basslines with stubbier notes the sub is important for drive but it not and big or constant note. What i could also do it the bassline has a Fast LP filter on it that is automated, so this would loosen up the sub lows making them sound messy aswell. Do you realise the time involved in Equing a basslin like this lol. was fookin stupid. Seems to swallow the low end verb on the stabby synth as well which was annoying.
Im still into the melody though so i might start from scratch after ive made a couple more tracks. What sequencer are you using?

Yeah trust me I do know how long it takes to eq a bassline like this.Fookin ages lol XD. I'm using reason rewired into ableton these days. Tbh I'd still say leave that tune as is and just focus on the mixdown more from the start next time.

Nice track man, production is great, liking the intro of the song reminds me of the older type of dubstep, more about groove, vibe and some great sub-bass rather than filthy basslines everywhere. I would say keep it up and make more of these types of songs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vocal sample is great so is the piano, one thing I will say is bring the drums more into the mix other than that its a damn nice tune, would be great to smoke a joint and listen to it so big up.

This all came about in about the last six hours, wanted an excuse to run SOMETHING through the fender head my friend had brought by. Hence the strings. Kind of a slap together project, nothing too special, I could probably do alot more work on the mixdown but eh... just not feeling it enough myself to put much more into this one, think itll probably sit this way. Critcism and feedback welcome as always, and its a free tune, so download all you want... be nice to get some soundcloud comments, follows, what have you, if your downloading, seems only courteous seeing as i gave you a tune.
Not bad for something that took you 6 hours to make, the mixdown could be better as you said yourself however I do like the staggered half time drums, I also think that some more synths could be introduced to push the song that much further and the strings could be lowered in volume. Other then that I think its a good tune.

@stealthelf
Nice tune, quality sounds, good production value and nice vibes all round with those stabs and little blippy lead parts.
@collisioncourse
You got a couple of pretty strong tunes there, nice minimal/dark vibes going on throughout. Again good production and nice choices in terms of voicing. Some cool rhythms in the second one too.
@jstick
I'm not sure if it's my speakers but I'm not hearing a lot going on the low end? Nice tune anyway, lots going on but it never gets incoherent so well done for that. Lots of cool melodies and harmonic movement too. Props man.

paravrais/ rolling review,
Love the tribal percussion. Synths nice and smooth and tidy. sounds like the lower toned synth in the intro interferes with the bass a little. But sounds pretty cool.
That bell sound is a tiny bit too neat, all of the other synths are filtered down. the mid grimey sound on the bass pans to right too much. In a club you wouldnt notice it so much as on my headphones but it would still drag off to one side. The round synth with LFO on it sounds a bit basic but the idea is sweet. Love the laid backness of the track.
The groove and the steppy bass is really nice i find myself boppin along to it whilst typing.
All the making of something hot here bud i can see some nice pieces of work coming from you in future. You structure is lush and the tune is perfectly progressive.
Nice work mate keep at it!
!peace!
im using FL8 btw and jsut learning ableton. its well weird going across to ableton after using FL for years. have you tried FL? its extremely powerful but you gotta have the system to match believe me!!!!

@Juju:Very sick tune man....reminded of Datsik's Nuke 'em. Actually thouhgt it was datsik's tune for a split second...na i'm just playin..
@kaiori Breathe:There is nothing to say about this other than i love it and downloaded right away...
@zonetrooper:a little quiet, but i got the same issue when i use speakers over monitors. I liked Groove better outta the two. added you on both mate.
@Jstick(Bad-Hair):cheers on the new track...always a fan. although it could use a tiny bit more snare..
@paravrais:you can never go wrong with a reggae vibe...i've been working on a reggae sounding song for a while....very old school feel though..cheers. maybe make it a wee bit louder. other than that your golden.
OkAY So i have a track for feedback/download. something i've managed to whip up in between all the work i've had lately..the title is very fitting of it. I've been DJing(commercial JUNK) all week and got a weekend spot playin what every 21-55 yr old in this town wants to hear...which means NO good music...haha..but hey it pays damn good, and this is the result of me using my afternoons to come up with Dogs Day Afternoon.
Hope yall enjoy it...

the album version is longer..and louder.
"BaKeD GoOdS" coming soon........

Your supposed to leave feedback for at least 3 other people before posting your own tune. Also your only meant to post one song up rather than your whole channel
To the people who have left me feedback, cheers

nice to get some good responses, don't worry I shall return the favour later once I've woken up a bit more..
