@ruthyloops: that is the most horrid attempt at a melody I've ever heard. Sorry, but I have to be honest. Also the beat is boring and goes nowhere. My advice is to work on compositional stuff before working on your mix, which will come later and the key is to aim for separation. It sounds like all your sounds are right on top of one another. Also turn down your hihats

@nibzdub - percussion sounds great im liking the chilled back flow. synth that you add in at around 1:50 is nice n catchy as well. maybe make the sub wobble a tad louder? might be just me.

@mekow - nice intro i like all the high pitched reverse sounds or whatever and sample is alright too. not a big fan of the sound of the bassline after it drops though. im not sure what it is just timbre of it isnt bright enough or something . either way though sick track i like all the samples and other sounds you threw in.

@ninthy - intro is cool but a bit long i think. drop surprised me wow . production sounds good. only thing i can think is maybe tone down the higher freqs or more sub i think would make it more powerful. your other shit is great too

@mrp5 - nice sounding remix i like the chopped-up feel to it. everything seems to be mixed well and nothing ad really sticks out. i like the synth you add in at around 2:00 too

@juan - big sounds man mixing sounds nice. whole thing sounds pretty good nice variety of sounds only thing i can think of is maybe make the breakdown sound a little less intense so the drop stands out more?

heres something i started on a few days ago. buildup is shit and i cant seem to make it hit very hard or heavy im not sure though. crit please :)

My new tune...think it still requires another mix down, see what you think.

@Iamepoch Dig the vibe, nice snare, begining of a biggen me thinks!
@Ninthy4 Holy cow, Great tune man, nuff said!
@Juan Nice, best bit for me 0.55, I would defo loose that vocal tho mate, destroys the tune in my opinion
@Nibsdub Not feelin that at all mate, soz, the bass sounds too filtered out?
@Jakedubber Cool synth however does get a bit repetative, like the echo snare and the drum pattern at 3 ;30!

Here's my new effort, still needs a bit of tightening up however see what you think!

@fds good attempt man! much better than my first tune. all you need to learn is how to structure your songs so it doesn't get too repetitive. and yeah I'm gonna touch up the sub more!
@panleft amaaaaazing tune dude I love it! I'd appreciate it if you give my new one some advice!
@darkali what bass are you on about? and your new one is really well produced but gets too boring man. that's not me having a dig, as I love the more soft subby dub. just repeats for like 7 minutes

This is just an update on the track I posted earlier in the thread. From what I can hear there's too much highs and not enough bass. But then again I'm mixing on headphones so I have no good point of reference, I'm also concerned it might be too busy, please review my track! Thanks

http://soundcloud.com/em-en/dun0 Your bass just sounds a bit mid rangy and filtered out in my opinion, great production mate, just not feeling it you know, I will listen to more of your stuff when I get a chance as you clearly know what your doing I'm just not liking this tune mate! Thanks for the feedback on mine, I am quite new to production and will take on board all comments! thanks ;)

Captain Planet wrote:@jakedubber - i love the intro sample, i think it could drop a bit harder but that's just preference. i like the melody though, its really nice.
@cryokinesis - really liking the bass in this, only suggestion i have would be switching it up a bit, its a little samey.
@nibzdub - listened to this when it came on my dashboard but i'll give you some feedback here. its quite chilled, not normally the kinda thing i listen to but i like it, maybe turn up the intro though, can hardly hear a thing.

here's something i was messing about with earlier, the drums are not final at all, just a loop i had that i put there to give me an idea of how it'd go with drums. no mastering/mixing at all yet but i dont know what to do with this bass from afer this point, hoping someone can give me some ideas because i dont wanna scap the whole idea with these sounds!

@captainplanet

nice sounds but it needs a good buildup something that introduces the key or some of the sounds to add anticipation. also when it drops try to have a recognizable melody that repeats. yeah variation is good but you need something to hold on to as well

in my sig is another track i started a few days ago, along with the one i just posted. hard crit is appreciated thanks
(im thinking about changing the yois on the second track because these ones are sampled but i dunno)

@darkali, which bass? the sub bass or the mid range that comes in towards the end if the song? let me know so I can sort it out. and yeah you have a really good sound, just you need to structure some more and add more transitions and breaks. but keep up the good work!

This is an update on the track I posted earlier. I'm still feeling like my mixing is just awful but when I try to bring all the levels up, I start doing a giant run-around that leads back to the same levels, etc. as before. Anyway, if anyone could give me the vibe they get with the song and some sort of progression help, I'd really appreciate it. Actually, anything would be greatly appreciated.

OH, thanks in advance to whoever helps, I know this isn't the "dubstep" everyone else makes here, but you guys seem to be the most educated and from what I've read, helpful. So yeah. :glasses: -q-

@captainplanet-- How's about maybe doing some kind of build-up bit, throw in some crazy sample, whether it be vocal or some cool sound, and then drop it into that? I don't know, just a thought.

@ Darkali

I'm not to keen in the intro, but like your drums, they do sound a tad muddy though. Pitched up vocal isn't to my taste either, but i do like the bleepy synth.

@ curcuitbored

Not really a fan of the yoy yoy synths. I don't like the fact you have so many different yoy sounds either. Maybe simplify it.

@ b brookes

I like the minimal/deep dubstep but don't feel like your track is going anywhere. I think you need to make it more interesting, switch up your drums etc

Soundcloud

I spent a few hours on this last night, still need to add a few thing but I'm happy so far.

Yeah, obviously I don't plan on just starting the track off like that, I was just looking for some opinions on the bassline. I don't think I was very clear in my first post haha.
Cheers mate

@ NIBSDUBS -> Solid track, I really dig the 3 min mark drop

@ B_BROOKS -> This has a lot of potential and some really cool ambience in it. It sounds like maybe you need to tune your sub bass, and I think you should have some sections where the tempo speeds up a bit and you toss in some different drum patterns, might spice things up a bit

@ DUBMATTERS -> That drum pattern is sexy! I want to get up and dance haha. Sounds like there are very low volume 'dubstab' type sounds in between the drum sections, maybe turn em up a bit and fx them to your hearts content! Add some extra sugar ya know whatever? Haha I don't know I'm just happy to be here

@ CAPTAIN PLANET -> That first drop sounded good at first but then really repetitive and kind of droning, you definitely should mix some other sounds in there man, also the sub bass notes are way too drawn out you should make slightly more of a melody with em, other than that, search around for some tips on using equalizers to get the various sounds into their relative "sweet spots". The intro and the build up are really well done, I just think you could fix up the main sections better... in my opinion. Keep it up though!

@ DUBMIKEY -> Haha sweet tune man, it kind of sounds like someones opening a bottle of soda over and over :P
My first ever finished track. Wondering if it needs a bit more... I forgot to put hi Hats in near the end but it makes the outro sound kind of better? Would like feedback

Thank you, I really appreciated the feedback. For your question: I am pretty sure I used 3xOsc for this one, not sure though. And yes, I am familar with Ni Massive, I'm not that good at it though. But I will try to look up some tutorials on it, thanks. :)

messing with massive has actually become one of my favorite pastimes, haha. Definitely worth your while once you start figuring it out!
