it doesn't say 'intelligent funk' and i don't think 'neuro' comes from neurons, i'd rather say it's a short form of 'neurotic funk' but i guess you'll have to ask that book author who first used the term. i really don't see where you got that impression from.
and yes, while a lot of newer neurofunk isn't funky anymore the term is still the easiest way to describe what is meant. and the funk influence is still there in newer shit, if you listen to harder funk records and then some audio or ed rusn&optical you'll know what i mean.
