That wasn't aimed at you Contakt, I know you didn't say that.Contakt wrote:That's not what I said.XOR wrote:But hey, dubstep is underground, so we're safe.
I don't think it is up to us to make assumptions about Hyperdub and the state of its finances.
I just think that as a scene we need to protect our own.
Agree to disagree eh?
Yeah, we do need to protect our own, like I said, I wouldn't ever discuss it openly. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm all for using uncleared samples and screwing the corporates and selling records under the counter, and the shop staff denying they even ever stocked it (true story), but you can only get away with that at a certain level.
Perhaps Burial has reached a level where it's more difficult to do. If dubstep is over the parapet, people should be looking out for themselves on a legal level as well, cus the punters keeping quiet won't stop a Burial lp landing on the desk of a film company employee. They're record buyers too.
That's all.

Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?

Re: Raver
exactly! that's what I've been thinking when I first heard it, was like "why did I never like this kind of housey tunes?" but I believe they just didn't have the burial vibe so most of them were just cheesy and shite. wondering what would burial hip-hop be like thoughDiaspora wrote:For me it's all about RAVER however, since I haven't ever been into 4/4 kick drum music, it makes me wonder what I may have been missing out on in the last few years. Is there anything anyone can think of that even REMOTELY resembles the vibes on this track? I need educationz. Thanks.

for the record, i couldn't care less what samples burial used and if they were cleared or not. a bit of consistency wouldn't go a miss though. to repeat my statement from earlier in the thread:
"So the general consensus seems to be that using un-cleared samples in tracks and making money off of them is A-ok, but anyone downloading said tracks on a file sharing programme should be treated as some sort of pariah? This shit gets harder and harder to follow."
'protecting our own' is a bit of a cop out. if you want to take the moral high ground, you better hold everyone to the same standards, no matter how good a producer they are.
nahmean?

Hi everyone, my first post here...
Glorious album, most exciting music in years I think. Perfect for that moment before sleep comes. Or daytime of course.
As for the samples, do we know for sure they are not legit? If that's the case, the responsibility lies with Hyperdub. It's not as if this record was ever going to be ignored by the mainstream press.
