alright so i just browsed through my samples folder and dragged everything i deemed interesting into reaper, just randomly with the intent of copying all those samples into a project folder afterwards. now uh... i just discovered that it's not possible to drag audio files from reaper into the explorer, is there any way around this? it's gonna be a pain in the ass to manually search for all of them again -_-

Save the project and in the dialog tick "move all media intro project directory".

^ Yep - what he said.
If you've already saved and closed the project file though, you can still go through and easily get the filepaths from the .RPP [song project] file. Just open it in notepad or some other plaintext viewer and search for .wav or whatever other media types might've been used.

Anyone know a way to make midi items cut off when they end?
I've been dropping my breaks into short circuit and keymapping across 5 or so keys and jamming out, but when I hit a key say on like the 'and' of 'four' and the item ends that bar the break plays through into the next bar (since I have the sample playback set on 'forward shot'. Anyone know if Reaper can make the VSTi playback cut off at the end of the midi item? I know I could automate volume but that seems sloppy...

You either need to do this in the VSTi you're using, or do an automation on the volume and activate "move envelope points with items", so the automation will be linked to the midi clip.

Try setting the VSTi to 'monophonic' play mode and reducing the release time on the Amplitude ADSR to 0.

Thanks, but those don't really answer my question. I know I could automate volume, and ADSR doesn't apply to how I'm triggering the slices (forward shot - as in I tap a key and it plays to the end of the break).
I was thinking there might be a setting that would cut off the VSTi output if there's no midi item in the track sequencer. I'll check on the reaper forums and get back to you all...

Maybe change it from forward shot to which ever setting plays the sample only when a midi note is present? When the midi note stops, so does the audio...

It's basically what I said. You automate the volume and link it to the midi clip.
Look, you get your clip, you set up some automation points so when the clip starts its full volume, and when the clip ends it cuts everything (like a rectangle). Then you turn on "move envelope points with media items". This way, when you move / copy the item, it will keep the volume.
But no, there isn't any setting to automatically link the volume to the existence of items.

Yes, I know I could automate volume. I said that in my first post. I just felt that was a sloppy way to do it, but that was my first plan too.
And I would change it to play only when a key is held down but when I'm jamming out with my break it feels unnatural to hold the keys down. I guess that's an ingrained drummer instinct, haha...
Thanks for the responses.

question time!
i got my mpd18 yesterday and i'd love to use it in together with battery in reaper. however jamming out beats is unnecessarily complicated because when i loop a sequence and hit midi record once the loop has completed reaper starts overwriting my first take instead of reading it. i envisioned pounding my drumbeat together on that controller layer per layer, like this it's just annoying and not fun. i know there must be a way around this but either i'm blind or it's not in the recording tab in preferences.
let's hope i'm a retard and the answer is simple and fast.

Right click on the arm-record button for the track and somewhere you can select "midi - overdub in existing items". Not at my music comp so I can't check specifics, but it's there (pretty sure it's the arm record button you right click, if not just try different buttons on the track control).

Yea man, I liked the new options for displaying the track controls.
Didn't notice to many differences apart from a slightly different gui. Am I missing something here?

Hey guys, I'm having a really weird problem with Reaper. I'm trying to render a song, but it's just getting half way, then the music quickly fades and the rest of the recording is silence. I know it's not an accidental volume automation or any, I can listen to the whole thing in the daw. I also have the render time set up right and everything. It does the same thing in playback sometimes, it cuts out if I just let it play for a while.
Does anyone know what could possibly be happening?

Is the V4 alpha stable enough to use regularly? I'm pumped for it. Gonna get a licence once 4.0 is officially released.

Don't know. I can't think of anything to fix that... anyone?

Got a link to the list?? (I'm feeling lazy)
(Some people assume I'm a Reaper boffin, but in truth, I know very little about the program or its development...!)
