there is a lot of discussion as to whether raising minimum wage is actually beneficial. in the US only 2.5% of people are on minimum wage and raising minimum wage has knock on effects like increasing the prices of food etc.

Pretty much since raising minimum wage will force some firms to cut the amount of employment or pass the extra increase in wages on to their customers. Plus giving people more money will cause them to spend more of it increasing demand and to force the demand down they would raise prices again. Pretty much leaving a lot of people worse off.

It's a very complex matter that I'm sure can't be solved by bods in the SNH with a couple of sentences.
