after getting a bit to carried away with the cowboy play through, ive thought of another character / role play thing. an assassin. essentially being Deckard from bladerunner and only using That Gun (found in the novac gift store which is based on Deckards gun) and hunting down 'replicants' (i'm lame, i know)

idontreallygiveashit wrote:Ahh cool, i've been reading about it on other forums, they recommend doing Honest Hearts because it's not really related to the stories and is the easiest, then DM > OWB > LR because they apparently follow a plotline of some sort? Plus the levels recommendations go up that way. Really looking forward to doing the DLCs, self contained stories, yay.

I spent the past hour waiting and waiting till a vendor had CF parts for the Sniper + Anti-Mat so i managed to get my stuff down to >75 for Honest Hearts (turns out i had 28 doctor's bags and i never actually used them ever, so i dumped all of them) but now i'm thinking i probably wont need the Anti-Mat for it, so i could leave it behind and have room to pick stuff on the quest. Hmm. I don't really need this lol, it's probably more overkill:

10mm Submachine gun
9mm Pistol
Weathered 10mm Pistol
Ratkiller
Hunting Rifle
Sniper
Anti Materiel

I probably just need the hunting + sniper rifles + a pistol. What do you think?
Totally unnecessary for HH if you ask me...mainly as you'll have real trouble finding ammo for your 10mm & 9mm items. Plus the main enemy carries Anti Material rifles a lot of the time, so you'd be better off just buying the parts and leaving the rifle behind.

You'll be on the Colt .45s special pistol & sub mg for a lot of the time in HH as it's the most frequently used weapon IIRC. Sniper & hunting are overkill if you've got the scope for the hunting IMO, Ratkiller is good for low level sniping but once you're getting into BIG targets like the Yau Gaoi and giant Cazadores the effectiveness will drop off.

Wow, Honest Hearts was really short and shit. Clocked the main story in about 2.5 hours. Let them slaughter the tribe cus ididntreallygiveashit about any of them. Please tell me the other DLCs are better?

And yeah wub, you were right about the ammo - towards the end of the storyline i had about two clips per weapon only, actually made things pretty intense so it was a good thing. Never came across another Anti-mat rifle during the time i played, everyone carried 45 Auto machine guns, 12.77 pistols and shishkebabs! Picked up every one i found and made 8000 caps on the 12.77mm pistols alone.

Also because pretty much all the texture packs i got from the main game didn't work on Honest Hearts, it looked like crap to me simply by comparison.

Story mode in HH is short, but the overall exploration aspect and side quests make up for it, like finding all 10 survival packs etc.

I'd recommend Dead Money next, totally different vibe to it :-)

It will in the start.
Get boone as your companion and go lay waste to New Vegas.
Don't rush through and try to finish all the main quests, make an effort to explore and find all the hundreds of side quests.

Try to keep a neutral or positive rep with Ncr and the legion, or they will hunt you down, and its a pain in the arse at lower levels

^this

I saved the guys from the legion camp too early and ended up being hated by the Legion who hunted me on every occasion.
It made the wasteland pretty challenging and well I enjoyed it more as a result but it's easier to be friendly to everyone for the while.

Not so much an issue IMO - both the ranger hit squads and legionnaire assassins level with your character, so you won't be getting dicked over by miniguns/12.7mm subs when you're only Lv4, for example...and when you exit the Tops after dealing with Benny both your NCR and Legion standing reset anyway.

yeah i suppose its different if your not on hardcore mode, but i was on a high difficulty on hardcore mode in the early stage of the cowboy play through and was just getting torn apart, both NCR and legion were after me most times i fast traveled anywhere. however once i did get to the strip the heat died off, as you mentioned.

Also worth noting that surviving an attack by either of the teams and robbing their kit is an easy 2k caps everytime...more than enough to do the Doc Mitchell/178 Trading Post/Gun Runners triangle of stores to flog the gear and then stock up on ammo/stims etc.

i didn;t bother with the ones outside the strip. high roller innit.

i have a tip for anyone who can take a pack of nightstalkers on no trouble. go to the thorn, speak to red lucy, work your way through the quest, when you need to get nightstalker eggs, go to the cave, go left drop down, get key from campfire, kill things, head north in cave til you reach gate on the left, unlock using key. open crate, get 7000~ caps

If you have Barter @ 70+ when you return to Red Lucy you can get an extra 900 caps out of here as well I believe.

I'm up on most things by now except melee.
I never bothered with melee weapons.
My character can talk itself out of a locked box with all the charisma, science and repair maxed.

Lockpick & Science are maxed ASAP as a priority, followed by Barter, Repair, Guns & Survival...basically anything that allows you to craft items and/or cook shit at a campfire, I'm down on.

Also worth getting the perk that lets you harvest thin red paste & black blood sausage as early as you can.

Anyone dared to take Logan's Loophole as a perk yet? (no addictions, all chems last twice as long, can't progress by lv30)
