I would LOVE to lead all the horses to a place without headphones and the idea of realistic representation of sound in a home setup. But to where?

Probably have to open the pic in a new window...
New place so finally have shit laid out properly again, also a nice addition of an MPC 4000 to my kit list.
The door to the left is actually a pretty large walk in closet that currently just has my art shit in it and is getting soundproofed and setup as a vocal/recording booth as well

What headphones did you use to mix that?Johoosh wrote:Made a tune start>finish this week on headphones as I had no access to speakers at all and sent it to a few ppl & the feedback on the mix down was real good. Was getting a fair bit of ear fatigue near the end tweaking stage tho...nowaysj wrote: I don't like to mix on headphones, but it is the most accurate picture I'm getting of my sound, so I've been doing it lately. Mixes are sounding much better, imo.
Also nowaysj big up ur bad self for extolling the virtues of the side menu in FL to me. Switched up my sample folders and it's become soooo much easier to find decent samples & drum sounds for the tune quickly now.

Also, would be wicked if you could upload the tune, I'd like to hear what's possible on headphones (mixing wise).
I need to stop changing my sig

MPK pads are notoriously poop compared to MPCs. The pads themselves are actually identical but the construction and sensors are pretty garbo. Too much space between the sensor and pad, causing you to have to hammer them to get a response.
I'm modding mine as we speak actually. Got MPCStuff fat pads. I previously had 1 layer of electrical tape on the bottom but couldn't quite get feather touch out of them. Went up to 2 layers of tape yesterday and it was pretty perfect apart from 2 corner pads that are stuck on. I was reading about the sensor mechanism and realized it works based on area and not actual pressure. On the back of the pads, there's a circular area which is a bit convex. The more you push, the more of that dome shape presses against the sensor. So it's really just that circular raised area that matters, not the whole pad rectangle. I think it's the corners of the tape that eventually loosen up and touch the sensor, causing a dead pad. So today I'm putting on a fresh 2 layers and meticulously cutting around the oval shape with an xacto knife.
I'm also cleaning all the grime off my sensors, which I never noticed before because they're always facing down when I pull the pads out. Since it works by contact area, having little grease blemishes on the sensors could definitely affect its response and accuracy.
Hopefully when I'm done I'll have ultra sensitive pads that don't eventually deteriorate over time.
