Sounding pretty heavy. I'd vary the synth/bassline in the next version abit, and make the drop more "imminent". The vocals tail of and the drop is in your face but not in a good way. At least let the vocal finish completely, then have half a bar of silece maybe and a reverse cymbal and bam!

Cheers Geeza, will definitely be working on arrangement and variation to finish it up. Nice sounding drums on your tune. I like the switch up in the bass. This one's got potential. Perhaps add in a few more hats when the bass switches? You added some energy to your synth so I found myself looking for more energy in your drums/perc. Great job overall.

I couldn't tell if there was a sub or not on these headphones. Add a sub to it also.

@TRaffikz - Really cool start dude. I think the high end beepy sound is a bit loud and piercing, maybe just turn it down a touch. Also as it plays some auto pan would be nice (or just hand automate it), the stereo field is so much fun to play with. On my speakers it sounds like it could be a little subbier. Looking forward to updates.

@Grime Syndicate - I really love the feel of the track and the way the bass comes in around 0:50. Not your typical sudden drop. think some quiet water drop sounds (like in a cave or something) in the non uber-bassy bits would be nice. That ambientness would really work in those parts. Nice work.

This is a track I started last night whist waiting for my exam results to come out. I've only really got the main idea out, but sort of hit a mental brick wall. Would really appreciate any help.

Thanks Geeza and Grime Syndicate. i know the mixing and levels are off but thats just something i threw together in like 20 minutes so it will end up sounding nicer later on.

Ninthy4, great start so far. i really like the bassline but you should make the track build up to it. i would suggest ditching the crash cymbal throughout the beginning and only use it when the drop comes. and you should also turn it down a notch, tends to get a bit distracting ;)

you have an awesome idea goin with that remix though!

Hey there,
I'm feelin it but it gets too repetitive. Maybe after 16/32 bars of the main pattern change it up. You could low pass the bass and then put in a more intricate synth line and some hats for example...

I really feel the song till that cops sample comes in. The piano, drums and everything mesh really well and are clean. Interested to see where u go with this tune

And yup, I'm still on this tune. Having some trouble on the mixdown but anyways, hope people give it a listen and drop a comment when ya have time. Safe.

tight. I would change that pad out for a different one.. and also maybe make some parts where the main bass is silent and u only have subs with some new reverbed synth to make some type of slowdown.

Here's another idea that popped into my head yesterday. Again, drums are very lazy for now but I kind of like how the synths and bass turned out. :) Very rough, as usual, just an idea at this point.

I feel really bad for doing this, because i usually criticize people for it... but I can't listen to any songs until I get home (no flash player on work computer, and they won't let me get it)... to anyone who leaves me feedback i PROMISE to give them double feedback, and/or soundcloud comments!!! or i'll even send you a file with a bunch of the drum samples that I make

i have this new track that i made, it's pretty close to done but it's a little rough around the edges and I'm not sure if the mixing needs any work because I've heard it so many times and I NEED feedback on it really bad which is why i've posted it here instead of in the finished tracks thread (where my song would get bent over and raped by everybody better than me and i'd leave feeling talentless versus motivated to get better), my girlfriend just tells me "oh ya it's cool..." which is not helping! lol. Please help me out here and tell me what you think or what I can improve... almost all of the drums are 100% synthesized from scratch and processed so i'd like to know how people think they sound... thanks a lot if you've read this far!!! i will return the favor : )

i usually manage to overcome this by doing it late at night... most of my inspiration comes from moving things around... I'll take a synth line and layer it with the bass line by copying the midi clip over to another track, so ill have the same melody with a different sound. This is what usually gets me moving, because I'll go "oh that melody sounds cool on that other instrument, now i need a way to bring it in nicely", so i cut out a couple clips before drppping the beat back in with the new sounds... or what I've done is taken a lead, then turned the glide up all the way and copied the midi clip from my drum beat over to the lead.... the trick is to take the little bit that you have and make it a lot the song I just posted was made from only one loop on each track and no more, all i did was move stuff around, change octaves, cut and paste

then once I've got a few different riffs... solo a few loops, cut out certain parts of the drums (i like to cut out my kicks and snares in between bass drops), before a bass drop add some white noise with some automation on a LP filter to get the rising sound... also try moving the clips around... ill take a drum beat and slide it a half beat forward or backward and it creates a nice shuffle

Thanks for the tips! Songwriting has never been a problem for me, I've been composing music for 4 or so years now, but I've only been into dubstep for about a year, producing it for half a year only... So it's still a very new genre to me. ;) Most of what I hear in this music is centered around one bassline, one melody, one 'loop,' so I'm really not used to working around that idea yet. But I'll be sure to give you advice a go the next time I'm inspired. Thanks again!

Edit: Just wanted to mention one other thing... These rough ideas that I have aren't some 8 bar loops I came up with... They're usually 3-5 minutes long, the problem is I don't know how to find the motivation or inspiration to reach into the bag and turn one of them into a complete track. By complete, I guess I mean... with effects applied, mixed properly, EQ'd and compressed where necessary, arranged in interesting ways.. A polished track. :)

@bmills, your sound design is sounding very nice, and i personally favor sound design myself, so I must say nice job! As for ideas, at the end where that vocal sample is, I was ready for the nastiest bass drop... it'd have to be nasty though lol

@Remokari, your composition is very nice! and as for finishing at that point... it's hard, i'm still learning at that, people just keep telling me "you will never finish any song, you just have to know when to stop"... for the song "rain" I think when the bass comes in a second time the bass synth needs to change somehow... maybe layer it with something or just change the timbre... good tracks though!

track seems real displaced, too outa tune for ma liking, the ping pongy delay at the start was abit to hard panned.
work on ya drum more. i wasn't feeling asny rhythm ah. yeah i might be harsh but.. it was shit! keep moving forward & work on something in particular in the track & follow it, it will stop the disjoinedness! heaps of cool ideas... keep at it!!chea
