If you get chances knife and you have high criticals, in sneak mode melee is absolutly deadly. The jury rigging perk is one of the best to get aswell, especially if you use unique weapons

Chances Knife w/ the Slayer perk is damn near unstoppable...more so if you've got Ninja as well

(might be my next character build now I think about it...)
Shame the Chinese Stealth Armour doesn't confer you an automatic stealth field like it did in FO3

I was throughly disappointed about that little detail with FO:NV. Chinese Stealth Armour was my goto armour in FO3. The stealth field was so sick.

Agreed - regardless of what character build I was going for, first objective would be escape from the vault, then peg it across the wasteland to do the Operation Anchorage missions and hope I didn't get bitch slapped by a Deathclaw on the way
Nice having power armour training so early on in the game, and the Stealth Armour made some missions (like clearing out the supermarket) awesome fun to play

I'd say they are on a similar par if not better.
Operation Anchorage is quite linear in it's mission structure, but it is perfectly do-able for a new character as per my example above and can give you some shit hot perks and bonuses early on.
The Pitt gives you a very unique environment and is quite similar to Dead Money in the way it restricts your items early on.
Broken Steel gives you a nice ending to the main story that feels more final than how the game usually leaves it, plus adds more weapons/gear and a couple of hard bastard enemies once you hit the higher levels. Also raises the level cap to 30, I believe?
Mothership Zeta is pretty shit, very linear but more of a jokey pack than anything serious. You do get some awesome gear including
the samurai armour which just looks incredible.
Point Lookout is just stunning, simply stunning. Beautiful environment, great storyline, plenty of stuff to explore.
Worth the money I'd say.

Got this game a few weeks ago after seeing this thread, started with a good stealth/gun/repair guy (not in HC, I thought it would be good for a first playtrough) but Im already bored of this one tbh. Thinking about restarting the game (lvl.10 now) with a bad stealth/melee ninja guy in hardcore. Is this a good idea? Any tips for a melee character?

Thanks for the reply wub but I have the fallout 3 addons, I meant the I'm thinking of getting new vegas GOTY. Should have mad it a bit clearer. I don't really wanna get one or 2 add-ons when I can get em on disc for wayy cheaper

As I said goodeh, I'm enjoying them.
I have the ultimate edition.
I have completed Old world Blues, I'm on dead money at the moment.
The 2 are totally different to each other.

my bad
Yeah, would recommend the NV add ons as well, for a start each one increases the level cap by 5 all the to 50, so that should be enough of an incentive
Dead Money - ties off some of the story nicely for the Brotherhood/Veronica, gives you a limited palette of weapons to start with and has that whole survival vibe to it. Linear story though, and once it's done it's done, no returning.
Honest Hearts - beautiful to look at, story mode a bit on the short side, but a very different environment to explore.
Old World Blues - dark comedy vibe running through it, good background on how some of the other denizens of the Mojave came to be, a jaw dropping selection of perks/kit to pick up.
Lonesome Road - ties off the main courier story around the platinum chip amazingly, properly atmospheric feel to things, constricted yet deadly at the same time. Bit on the short side, and again linear mission structure, but kit & perks and overall vibe make up for it.
Couriers Stash/Gun Runners Arsenal - shit ton of new gear/weapons/perks/challenges.
I specifically waited for the GOTY/all bells & whistles edition to come out so I can have all 6 from the get go, totally worth the money IMO.

You can do a round robin visit of all the vendors if you like and stock up;
- Doc Mitchell
- Trudy
- Chet
- Primm casino
- 138 Trading Post
- Grab & Gulp reststop (think they've got a dedicated water seller woman)
- Medical clinic
- Freeside
- Strip
etc
etc

Which you can then give to the Boomer childen for karma

If your survival skill is high enough (50) you can make mass purified water out of dirty water and a few other items.

You can also refill water bottles at the sink in Old World Blues.

goodeh wrote:^i stopped playing the game for nearly a year and totally forgot the story. I've ended up restarting in hardcore mode on hardest difficultly playing as a cowboy (thanks wub) (
extra info here)). its quite hard to anticipate which story is going to more interesting yet more beneficial considering i've already completed siding with NCR
Ok, started playing through on this build finally like for my third run.
Fucking love the cowboy character so far, only downside is that as I'm role playing it I'm restricting myself to wearing a cowboy hat, meaning I'm getting done over by head shots a lot more than I'm used to
On my way to Novac at the moment to grab That Gun before my lockpick is enough to crack the safe for Lucky

To anyone that likes this game, feel free to head on over here, I've got some stuff that needs doing.
I've got a stack of paid and unpaid bills. Could use some organization. I need a good sweep under my desk, around cables and what not, speaking of which, I've got four stereo channels that need to go from 1.5 foot patch cords to 3 footers to my audio interface. Could also do with updated and better labels on the patchbay, would have to trace all lines to ensure proper labeling. Have had too much gear moving through to keep it updated. I've got various costumes you could wear. I could play some old annoying music for you on a tinny monophonic radio if that helps.
