Check your soundclouds: Debaser1, Lordbid, and Grok. =D=D

This is something I put together with the sample pack from the competition, since I missed that there's really no reason to only use those samples, so this is where I got with them in a few minutes before writers block killed me dead =/. Any pointers on where to go or feedback on what I have is very appreciated.

@ninthy4: Amazing track. I am honestly not worthy to critique your work. I will be following you on SoundCloud.

@Kes-Es: Really liking the drums. Not really much goin on, but that's why its a work in progress I suppose. Maybe you could use some vocal samples emphasizing the ganja aspect?

@nicorisone: Nice intro. Obviously needs to be longer, but I like where it is going. Especially :45 where the higher keys come in.

Here is something I started working on because I was up at 6am with nothing to do. It was an old file that I was planning on turning into a hiphop instrumental so it is at 90 bpm, but it morphed into something similar to dubstep along the way. I kind of feel that everyone on this forum is way out of my league when it comes to production, especially when it comes to bass synthesis, but whatever. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

@ Afresh

Hey man I appreciate the feedback. On your track, things seem a little bit noisy from the get go, not bad, but I suggest leading into the bass over time or bringing it down in the mix, as it stands with the track just opening up into everything at once it's a little too much. Other than that I enjoyed it, liking the low tempo on it and the drums, also the sounds that come in around 1:00 are fun, keep working on it man. =D

First of all I only have one monitor for this critique so comments on mix-down should not be trusted fully, unless its really obvious.

@hutyluty - hah for sure just found that sample but I really wanted a ragge guy in my tune ha, I would have done my best impersonation but im too lazy to get the mic out. hmm for you I say kick and snare need more weight in the mix, sounds like your pad even is louder than the drums.... its quite distracting. I think you need more drum variations/fills having the same kick snare pattern over and over it needs some switchups. BUt yea really work on the mix-down, go listen to your tune on as many speakers as possible and be critical with yourself. That pad/lead thing is obnoxiously loud. Also I wanna hear more percussive hits some crashes or something!! they really help a song out I find, I tend to use them like glue!!

@sirminus - yea the midrange was always intended to be very subtle, at first I had the sub wobbling but decided it was wrong I think it will remain a chill track with maybe a couple of changes but we'll see I have all weekend to work on it. For you that drop lacked impact I think. I think your build gets louder than the drop which really makes it loose impact, cus it sounds like the volume goes down. The mid-range bass should be turned down a little bit and the sub brought up too, trust me it will help you. Also your kick is FATASFUCK really thumps nicely. I want to hear more changes in the drums too as they get a little stagnant in their rythm as it is.

kes-es: im liking your drumwork, those hihat patterns are sounding nice, and youve got a good deep bass going on...the track just needs a bit more filling out i think, just a few subtle noises which complete the track, and then work on building it up from there.

NICORISONE: im not quite sure where youre going with this, but at the moment the whole thing sounds like an intro to a pretty heavy track, so if thats where youre going then its definately a good intro an youve built up nice tension. if however its a track itself, switch things up a bit when it drops instead of just adding sub, let me really know the track has dropped. apart from that the drums are sounding nice and have good impact.

AFresh: youve got a nice selection of drums going on, and really heavy bass, its sounding good so far. You need to add in an intro though, before all of that impact, start off with some of those subtle drums and build up tension, and then on the drop put in that bass and let the rest of your drums come through, would make it seem a lot more complete.

updated version of my dubstep track using fight club samples...

It's still heavily a WIP and it's only "finished" up till a short part of the drop.

Tell me what you think please guys, and many many thanks for any constructive criticism and comments!

(NOTE: i already commented on a few people here before, and I will continue commenting here regularly so don't assume i have not commented before posting my own track, thanks!)

Kick is a wee bit uhm, loud for my tastes, but I like the beat... oh hats just came in, I like it better now. Like the movie sample, haven't heard it used in dubstep yet so that's cool, like the automation on that melody before the drop. Wobble bass is lacking bass, and is a little too far back in the mix behind the kick.

fun Ideas, doesn't suck, maybe back the kick out, do a different snare sample, and add a sub to the wobble and you have a good track!

@LordBid- dope stuff dude. the synths compliment each other nicely. this track is very climactic.

First of all, many thanks for the feedback!

What exactly would you say is wrong with the snare? I tried tweaking it and changing it endless times but people still tell me to change it.

EDIT: just listened to your tune too, it's pretty god damn sick man! loving it! though now, for my personal taste the kicks may be a little juicyer and louder, but that's just me of course saying that after you saying mine needed to be backed up a bit :-P I just like the feeling of a juicy kick fucking me in the ears! ;-)

Thank you for the feedback man, that kick is a little hollow so I'll look into doing something about it.

As for your snare, it just doesn't hit very hard, it sounds too electronic and sequenced, not that other beats don't, but that realistic samples go a hell of a long way in your beats sounding good and less synthesized.

@lukeraith, intro sounding good, that snare is awesome and like the buildup, but the drop is a little disapointing or out of tune, maybe need to speed that up.
@spraypaint the kicks are bumping hard man, really like the moog bass or what ever it is but that swelling sound or sample high pitched one needs to be toned down or use something different,
@mortal like this the melody or sample watever you are using its sickk, feel that the bass needs to be a little more prominent

@mindcontrol, I just had a listen to your WIP, the subs are kickass, but the beat is a little on the weak side for my tastes, though i'm sure that once you work more on it and add more stuff, it'll be amazing!

now, anyone has any more comments and critiques for me before i get back to work on my own track? (posted above). Damn writers block :q:

@mortal - really trippy beat, unique bassline too, feeling it
@zendja - great work on the bassline and sample, the thing thats letting the track down is the drums! maybe a much stronger snare, and speeding the bassline up on the last drop will definitely improve the track!
@kes-es - love that crunchy sound youve got in the buildup! drop certainly doesnt dissappoint either! it would be a great shout making it a bit more melodic, makes dubstep so much better

@Slinkee "cut is fuckin head off" - stole it from cookie monsta haha :D . I think the snare should be a little more dominant, arps are cool, wobble is catchy and I like it..

this is gonna be my first post so i hope these comments will be of any help.
@fatach liking the intro but there doesn't seem to be much going on there, little more variation? synth before the drop is really catchy, nice one!
@mindcontrol: really reminds me of massive attack, def a nice chill tune, but you're kick is sort of drowning in your bass, needs to be more punchy
@luke raith: piano and beat in the intro are really nice, liking the reverse snare. the wobble sounds awesome but gets boring rather quickly. needs more change up to keep it interesting and also it is pretty loud compared to the beat?

here's one of my first tries using FL studio 9, please don't be too harsh on me

Seems like your bass is out of tune with everything else, I can hear the piano behind it and it doesn't sound like you're on the same notes...

Other than that nice sound design, I won't comment on the mix because it's a youtube link so I can't really be fair.

Nice concept, maybe add some vocal samples and spice up the drums.
