You are saying that both the samplers in reason cant natively, without other devices, modulate the amplitude of its own master volume/gain out?
Both samplers have a dedicated amp env ADSR. NN-19 has a limited but assignable LFO which can not be assigned to amplitude. The NN-XT has two LFO's, but only one can be assigned to amplitude.

The LFO's on both devices have a very limited range of waveshapes. This isn't a problem as the Malstrom and Thor both have a better selection of waveshapes and can be used to proved LFO biznizzery. What is a shame is that there is no dedicated 2u device for LFO and HAHDSRs in Reason. Loading the Malstrom or Thor into a combinator patch takes far to much screen space, and the code for the LFO's has already been written. Sheer lazines on Props part imo... :(

The NN-19 can, just turn it around and connect LFO to Amp. Its far from great, but why anyone would use the NN-19 is beyond me anyway.

Thats a good point futures that i never thought of, a half 1U unit, with just an LFO, multiple waveshapes and multiple ins and outs.
For the benefits of screen estate and CPU. I dont like the idea of grabbing a malstrom JUST to use an LFO either.

Ah I didn't think of that..

Cuz it has a modulatable sample start position control. ;)

Ditto with the filters available on Thor. A 1u device would be great when implementing complex modular combinator setups! :)

re: Annoying click when effects are turned on/off

Hi,

I've searched dubstepforum.com, other forums and google in general but can't find a solution to this problem...

I'm using Reason 4. I'm working on a combinator bass patch. I've got a delay effect in the patch which is usually set to bypass, i.e. no delay. Sometimes, I want to turn the delay on for a particular (usually short) note - listen to example clip here: http://soundcloud.com/bigzy/problem-annoying-bass-click

I've tried a number of different ways to turn the effect on and off but I can't seem to get rid of that annoying click.

First I had the off/on/bypass switch automated, as in the clip. Then I tried automating the dry/wet amount - a step change still had the click but a gradual change caused the previous note to also be (undesirably) delayed. I also tried playing with the attack on the amp envelope but that changed the main sound too much. I also tried applying a filter to get rid of the click; unfortunately, the click is not the same every time and, to guarantee removing it, the filter changed the main sound too much. I also experimented with creating the delay effect manually by entering the notes and reducing the velocity or removing oscillators... hold on... wait a sec...

Ooo, I've just worked it out... kinda... I can manually enter the notes and then automate the master volume of the synth. Does the trick for now but seems like a bit of a fudge! Also, this problem occurs with turning on/off other effect boxes, e.g. filter, so still worth posting this for other people if they are having the same problem.

So, does anyone know how to avoid this problem properly?

Also, as a matter of interest, is this problem fixed in Reason 5?

Thanks

what i do in this case is: automate the bypass button. Automate it so that the effect switches on when the sound in not playing. If thats not possible. Then just duplicate the patch, have one with delay and the other without.

Dudes,

..is there a way to rewire one reason rack into another? I learned the freq analyzer trick with the vocoder and I wanna have just one running with that.. :(

like having 2 projects open at the same time and wire between those?

I'm pretty sure you can't do that

yeah, one into the other.. I hear it can be done. I'd like to just use one as a freq analyzer. :| ghetto styles

Well in that case i can't help you, I have no idea how tot do that. You definately can't drag the cabels between windows. Let us know if you find a way.

Any one got any tips for using Kong? I always use Redrum for my drums and I know I could use that to trigger the Kong, just prefer using my samples. Any cool tricks or more creative uses for it that people want to share?

If you're using breakbeats, throw a rex into the nanorex module of kong, and put the same loop across a bunch of pads. Then, chop the loop into chunks, set all the pads to chunk trig, and beat juggle away. Here's more detail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RszBmc9wII8

Yo peoples...
I have a problem with the "copy pattern to track" feature on redrum.
one day, it just stopped copying my patterns in to the sequencer. ive tried reinstalling reason, googling it and searching on here but to no avail?

There was one topic on here about this but the response to the poster was to try spam clicking in the black area incase he had something else selected or something... :o
That wasn't the answer to my problem and now im completely stuck! :u:

The only way i can get my patterns down is to right click the redrum channel on the sequencer and click convert automation to pattern notes which just gives me like a 64 bar loop which i have to chop down and isnt practical at alll.... :i:

PLEASE HELP.

are you making your pattern on the very top 49-64 bar thinking it's on the 1-16?

no pal...thats only through right clicking and clicking the "convert pattern automation to notes"
its the "convert pattern to track" not working thats the root of the problem :?

dont why it would suddenly stop working, you could just automate which pattern is selected instead. Thats the way I do it any way.

hmmm. i suppose i could do it that way as a last resort...but i shouldnt have to change my way of producing just because the program has decided to not allow me to use a feature anymore :|
maybe i should just take it up with someone at propellerheads?
cause i remember it happening on my version 4 a couple of times but eventually restoring itself back to full use... :|

If you have a legit copy, the best place to ask is on the Propellerhead forums.

If not, don't worry, I'm certain we can solve the problem.

Maybe you could post step by step details of what you're doing so we can try figure this out together? :)

Normally, one has to ensure that a sequencer track is selected for the midi notes to be copied too. If you're using Reason 4 or 5, you may need to create a new midi note take within the Redrums sequencer channel. Afterwards, it should just be a matter of clicking the 'copy notes to track' button as usual.

Alternatively, and this is how I do my drums, just pencil in the pattern directly onto the paino roll. One can work very quickly by creating midi clips of each segment, then copy and pasting them over making variations as you go.

thanks for the help in advance :)
um, im just going about it the normal way.
ill open up a redrum, load it with all the samples im going to use, jam a beat out on the step sequencer then when im done i click "copy pattern to track"...
nothing appears in the sequencer, no matter how much i spam click it or click the redrum track on the sequencer.
what do you mean by "create a new midi note take within the Redrums sequencer channel"?
i suppose im going to have to switch my ways of work to, as you said, programming the notes with the pencil. -q-

if i remember rightly, this has happened before. but usually, i open a new document and it would cure itself? maybe its something to do with how my default rack is set up...the only thing i havent tried is to open up with reasons built in rack and try it through there.

probably a stupid question but you are clicking "copy pattern to track" and not just "copy pattern"?
