Here's something I've been thinking about for a while.
So, apparently back in the 90's, the sort of "urban" UK styles - jungle and garage basically - didn't have too much credibility with mixmag and other such magazines. To them, the good, credible shit was old school detroit techno, chicago house, IDM electronica and paul okenfoald. (Older ninjas, correct me if I'm wrong). Nowadays though, hipster mags are all over grime, certainly were all over dubstep, and fact talks lovingly about jungle all the time.
Does that mean the whole UK scene is a bit bloated and beard-scratchy (like IDM was/is), and that something "realer" is being disregarded by dance music nerds right now? TBF a lot of those magazines also like to big up chiraq rap, and I can't imagine anything less pretentious.
Does anyone know what I'm saying?

All just a matter of perspective. They coulda been all over jungle and garage, but ignored house/techno, and now they like techno and ignore hardcore continuum music. in that case then trance would be the 'disregarded' shit you're talking about. I doubt there's much out there that we haven't heard of. there's stuff out there we don't like (trance) but would you really consider that "realer" music?
in conclusion, i don't think you're on to something, lol.

That's not true tho. Fact has lots of coverage for keysound, swamp etc. Pitchfork even reviewed Logos' album. What hardcore continuum music is being ignored? And yeah obviously EDM stadium shit (the trance of today) is ignored by us, but that almost doesn't count, because that's another thing entirely, and has plenty of attention on a level above any of this niche stuff.

yeah but they're not ignoring techno either. I'm just asking, what's the really sick, uncool underdog genre right now?
Bassline?

i dunno if people 'produce' it in the traditional sense but they definitely perform it (ie there is a scene). i really don't know much about it but there's a lot of talk about it in the region.
