@redjuan - much better mate - that snare is really nice and fits the track much better - bass is sounding much more tame as well, really fits in much more smoothly now - good effort!!

Don't be surprised if I leave tons of feedback on your soundcloud, I hope you do the same for me.
Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
Hey josh, i dig the tune. try just adding a little variation to the drum beat, and maybe take some portamento off the synth, it makes it wonky, but at some points it seems to take it out of tune a little too much.JoshH wrote: Would love some feedback people xxxx

@EraRedux - that tune is awesome bro - I fucking love it - really deep and heavy - cheers for the feedback on soundcloud to bro - any other tips on mixing?? I'm really wanting to get my mixing up to scratch cause it really bugs me that my tracks aren't sounding pro cause I know I've got the ideas and comitment just can't seem to make it happen!!

Edit: Forgot to ask - you handing out any 320's of the track would love a copy man!GRAYSKALE wrote:@EraRedux - that tune is awesome bro - I fucking love it - really deep and heavy - cheers for the feedback on soundcloud to bro - any other tips on mixing?? Well what client are you using to create your music? I use reason, because i have ALWAYS twiddled knobs on synths since i can remember. A couple tips i can give: You can NEVER spend too much time on a track. Pseudosome took me 35+ hours to lay down and mix and master (and it's still not done >.< ) .. The goal with beats I am starting to find out with dubstep, and rusko said it best through his tutorials, you want to keep the listeners interest, it needs to be FUN. If you lose their interest, your mission has failed. Be it a little Zip here, or a grind there, or a tom here, or a pitch change on a snare, add something else, it will give it depth and personality. Another thing, stick to instruments you create, that way you will learn them inside and out, and if you want something to happen, you will know exactly how to execute it. The final thing i would suggest is leveling. It takes a LOT of time to automate the sliders to each part flows, and the parts that need to stand out, stand out.GRAYSKALE wrote:Edit: Forgot to ask - you handing out any 320's of the track would love a copy man!GRAYSKALE wrote:@EraRedux - that tune is awesome bro - I fucking love it - really deep and heavy - cheers for the feedback on soundcloud to bro - any other tips on mixing?? I have no idea what a 320 is, i just started doing this stuff, so i'm pretty much clueless. is it the bit rate?

Also another thing, i like to work in 16 measure progressions, since if you work in just a 4 measure progression, it will sound repetitive.

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
Excellent advice bro - I'm beginning to learn that time is the only way to get good results - and patience aswell - I design all my synths from scratch and try my hardest to create the sound effects - though sometimes a sample has to do - using ableton live suite 8 - i like the onboard Operator FM synth - 320 is just a 320bit rate mp3 - lot of people handing them out to DJ's nowadays instead of dubplates - feels wierd telling somebody with skills like yours what a 320 is, lol, thought everybody knew. haha. cheers again for the advice. Just waiting on a laptop fix so I can get back to making tunes!!EraREdux wrote:GRAYSKALE wrote:

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
Yeah i design all my synths from scratch as well (minus samples, some zips, a couple bleeps, bells, and most orchestra patches.. even then, i use the combinator and create something completely unlike the original, but regardless, it's not form scratch) I only know what i know because in high school i took a course on MIDI and analog synthesizers, and we used cakewalk and old macs to make music. Didn't really have the depth that reason has now, but it gave me solid foundation. I also was in a touring experimental band for over a year, so a lot of effect knowledge came from the guitar pedal board i had to lug around >.<GRAYSKALE wrote:EraREdux wrote:GRAYSKALE wrote: Excellent advice bro - I'm beginning to learn that time is the only way to get good results - and patience aswell - I design all my synths from scratch and try my hardest to create the sound effects - though sometimes a sample has to do - using ableton live suite 8 - i like the onboard Operator FM synth - 320 is just a 320bit rate mp3 - lot of people handing them out to DJ's nowadays instead of dubplates - feels wierd telling somebody with skills like yours what a 320 is, lol, thought everybody knew. haha. cheers again for the advice. Yeah, i have the HQ's of these tracks if you need them, just let me know which ones, and ill send them out through mediafire.
All and all man, don't rush it. That's pretty much the most valuable advice i can give. Even a track like this one:
Soundcloud
took a while to write, just so i could nail the climaxes, as subtle as they are.

Sounds great man! I like the plucking sound you have gotten on the low notes. Reminiscent of bar9 style. big ups.impey wrote:?impey wrote:Soundcloud

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
Why is there a 1:30 intro, and why is it so quiet? Use the levels relative to the mixer, not to your ears.ponte_ricky wrote:Soundcloud
been working on this over the last couple of days. feedback would be great thanks

@eraRedux - HQ's?? lol - you've stumped me now - just wanderin' if I could get an mp3 of "dinners ready" - would like to stick it into a set when I get back to uni in september if you wouldn't mind - it's all about having some fresh and different tunes in the set!!

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
because i wanted it to have a long intro, i'm not particularly interested in making tracks for dancefloors as such. and its quiet because i haven't put any compression or limiting on the master channel, i'll leave that to who ever masters it for me.

You'll save monies if you master the tracks yourselfponte_ricky wrote:because i wanted it to have a long intro, i'm not particularly interested in making tracks for dancefloors as such. and its quiet because i haven't put any compression or limiting on the master channel, i'll leave that to who ever masters it for me.

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010
haha good idea. i probably should go stick some compression across the mix for loudness but i sometimes find i can ruin my mix. i'd rather get someone who is more experienced in mastering to sort that shit out and get it sounding good
