Are we gonna see a record label called Cobra 11 crop up in 30 years time?!

Still need to pick up the last few releases, can't wait for the Bias plate and Swims.

Swamp81 needs to start releasing digital though... I mean, Loe himself uses Serato so I can't imagine why he has a problem with it.

I'd drown a bag of cats for 320s of the entire catalogue.

Shit cats though, not the cute fluffy ones.

I would do a Shaun of the dead on your ass if you did that. With the Swamp 81 catalog

I think, without meaning to be a pedantic tnuc, that Operation Trident might be the more accurate label name 30 years down the line.

Quite like it actually.

I think it isn't really a 'problem', it's just smarter financial wise i guess. You have a highly adored label on the market, releasing highly wanted music + the advantage that you can't download a vinyl illegally... The sales of the vinyl releases would drop if they did digi. (of course the amount of digi you can sell would be way higher than vinyl but i have no clue how good/bad the figures are for labels with their digital releases)

I bought only vinyl when i was younger but i just can't afford it anymore and have no need for it either, that's why i'm buying only-vinyl releases and digi's of course.

I don't really know what the profit is on a 12", but I don't think there's a lot of difference between the profit of 1 sold mp3 and 1 sold 12".
Pretty sure they'll even make more $$$ when they go digi, even though Swamp81 ain't about the money!

Releasing vinyl-only in 2011 is just stupid IMO. The whole "vinyl is exclusive" thing is overrated. I use Serato because it's easy and cheap, but I still buy vinyl.
What I don't do though, is play vinyl at clubs. Fucked up needles everywhere, makes the record sound shit. And a vinyl rip played by Serato sounds shit too.
Not releasing digital is just fucking with your clients. How many dj's are there with Serato and CDJ's that want to play Swamp material but can't because of the whole vinyl-only deal?
It's just bloody ridiculous IMO.

And about the sales of the vinyl releases would drop, I don't think there will be a spectacular drop to be honest. Plus, they can always change the amount of 12"s they press.

EDIT: Oh, and about the you can't download vinyl, you're right about that! However, you can download rips, and there are enough of them floating around.

If somebody wants to do something that harks back to the past, or has such a massive culture built around them, then let them. If they work hard getting releases out, organising A&R, commissioning artwork, get vinyl cut, then I say let them decide how it's done. It's their label, and people can choose to support them if they want. They owe people nothing, and you can't always get what you want.

Not saying he should change it. It's his label, not mine.
Just wondering "Why?".

Nah, fully understand, just my thoughts on it. :)

I dunno, maybe if vinyl and the culture around it was important to you, and you had the opportunity to make it an important part of music again, you'd have to take it really, wouldn't you?

I don't understand if vinyl DJs have such a massive problem with needles in clubs... just bring your own? Takes about 10 seconds to screw in a new stylus does it not? If I ever get a booking I will standardly bring fresh needles with me incase...

hassle tho innit.
plus why should I play at a club and potentially fuck my needles unless the club/promoter is paying for my equipment and any potential damage?
