I appreciate you taking the time.

There's something very distinct about the sound. It' less distorted and theres movement besides a phaser. @ 3:08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRWPt4TnE7I.

Same rules apply, just without the phase and less distorion..
The only difference is it sounds like he is automating the volume (amp) in massive instead of on a lowpass filter :W:

look up dr p tutorial on youtube. off the top of my head there's 3 oscs, one detuned a dozen or so cents up and one down.

Now, anyone want to venture a guess at the riser that's been in every rap song for the last few months: at 15 seconds. I'm thinking maelstrom or thor could do it with an LFO that's kind of stepped assigned to filter pitch?

Background Noise o_O

Hey everyone. I've been producing Dubstep for about 3 months now and I'm starting to get more comfortable with my style and what I want to do with it. I know how to use my samples, place my drums, chop up vocals if needed. But there's ONE thing that is probably driving me up the wall most that I can't quite get a hold of! Background noise. By this I mean the sound that's pretty much in the background of a song to give it sort of that "full" feeling instead of sounding plain and empty in the background. Now I know it sounds simple, but I can't quite figure out how to get it to sound natural. I'm not even sure what to put back there!

So my question is, do professional artist just put anything and everything in the background to give it that feel? Or does reverbing the heck out of all your sounds help fill in the blanks?

Just a random Doctor P song off the top of the head

At the drop a :55 it sounds like he has some reverse sounds in the background just repeating over and over? Kind of a sword slash sound. (best way to describe it) Is it just something simple as that quietly in the background to make it sound more full?

I've kind of been able to mess around with this, but for some reason it still doesn't sound as full and professional as I want it to be :o Any advice on this would be very helpful.

Thanks! :)

that is just a reverse cymbal that is barely audible and its just going on every bar or 2 bars i believe or you can have white noise going on but that will show up more in the track but you can just have a fat long white noise sweep down meaning slowly automating the filter cutoff (lowpass filter to be exact) and trust me it will give your track more atmosphere also have pads if anything or some reverb on most instruments but i don't think that will turn out so well with your basslines and whatnot if there is so much reverb you can actually notice it entirely.

dude, i know exactly how that guy got that sound. i know for a fact he uses reason and i promise you there is a youtube tutorial where some guy gives you that exact lead for free its in the description i think the vid goes by "doctor p" or just search that instead i promise you, that you will find it that exact sound. also it sounds like there is some vibrato but i think the patch was made in thor so you would have to have an lfo on the pitch with not so much of an amount and a good 1/8 or 1/12 on the pitch for all the oscillators trust me it will work you will get that sound

EDIT: this is it right here but no download link to the patch oh well but this will get you that exact sound trust me

I haz Sytrus preset. Requires processing to sound just right. lemme know if you use FL Studio.

scary monsters and nice sprites is the LD Screamer preset with Osc A2 off and the delay and reverb off. skrillex has confirmed it

edit: forgot to mention it's a preset in Sylenth1

Sound 1: The whistling sound as the underwater train flies by at 0:24.

Sound 2: The "Choir Pad" at around 1:00. Sounds like angel sex.

Sound 3: The sound as the robots ion cannon powers up at 3:05. And also the actual blasting of said cannon would be phenomenal.

Please don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure at least part of that choir is a sample, if not the whole thing. Also, the sound as the cannon powers up sounds like a sample as well. The rest is beyond me. DOA has some great neurofunk tutorials though.

Start with basic waves, put an envelope on the pitch, play high notes and experiment with the waves. Should get you pretty close :W:

Skrillex Elephant-sounding high pitch noise

Anyone know how to make the elephant-sounding high pitch noise found in some Skrillex tracks, especially in "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites"? I've also heard it in a Bare track as well, and I've tried so many times to replicate it in Massive, but I never came close. There's a tutorial for creating it on Reason on Youtube, but I don't use or have Reason.

Eg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NppkzEsGedQ (1:19)

Thanks in advance!
