How.
ask them to spot you, then struggle. if they know what they are doing they will grab your wrist and lower them down....proper arm placement and those pillows might get in the way
thats if you are doing an incline bench mind you

I don't really think there are any rules, it's just whatever works for you.
I use a mix of machine and free weights. I find I can get a better isolation using a machine though.
This.
Regarding girls at the gym. I don't go to a chain gym, just a mid-sized independent gym (because it's closer to my house, not because I'm some sort of gym hipster), and the girls/women that go there are, for the most part, fucking terrified from the looks of things. I'd say male to female is probably about 5 to 1, and the amount of staring they put up with is next level. Top pervs and paeds some of them are. Shame really.

From what I remember only the old guys were like that, they would do 4 reps then stare at some bums into the wall mirror (fucking wall mirrors EVERYWHERE). Guys my age were more busy squatting 300pounds while blasting some classic eye of the tiger with their warface on, then take off their shirt and stare at themselves in the same wall mirrors, was quite funny

There's a group of three kids that weigh about 9 stone between them that have been coming to the gym for about 2 weeks, with smart polos on (top buttons done up, naturally) that haven't done a single fucking thing since they've been there. Just stood there talking to each other in front of the mirror. I've seen them sit down on a machine, but they don't do anything, just talk to each other and perv.

i had a buddy in uni who wanted to work out but never came with me to the gym. Said he didn't want anyone to look at him because he was skinny and whatnot
I had to convince him that everyone who went there was far too busy looking at themselves to bother judging him him

My favorite gym type is the HUUUGE 5'2" dude who spends 1 hour standing between you and the mirror in an otherwise empty room, constantly tryign to catch a glimpse of you watching him. Never getting that if you're looking in his general direction it's BECAUSE YOU WANT TO SEE YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR BUT HE'S BLOCKING THE VIEW.

For overall strength and a more 'usefull' strength I'd use free weights, engages your core way more. On a smith machine I can bench like 100kg but on a free bench like 70kg so it definitely helps you out a fair bit.

Does anyone know anything about protein powders?
I thought I might give one ago but I don't know which to use. What would be more beneficial for leaning muscle; Whey, Creatine or Glutamine?
