Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I will most likely end up buying this, quite enjoying it. Followed by Reaktor :]
Tis refreshing to break out of the Reason hole again (nothing against that program, I personally just feel a bit limited when using it)
edit: Its also worth going to the Cockos website to download the extra vsts they have bundled there. I couldn't for the life of me route sidechain compression until I used ReaComp.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
remember you can still use reason inside reaper.
guys, i have a question. i've been using kontakt more and more recently and i'd like to use it as a multichannel plugin. now i have figured out how to have multiple midi tracks play different modules within kontakt and i'm sure by tomorrow i'll have figured out how to set up the outputs to a single track per module too.
my question is: when i create a track and let it send midi to kontakt's channel 2 for example, and i arm that track's midi input and play on my keyboard i can see the track gets midi input but it doesn't arrive at the kontakt channel. is there a way to set that up or do i have to write the midi first before being able to hear the results? that would make tweaking a pain in the ass!

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I got few things I'm wondering about:
-Can I automate the parameter modulation speed and on/off?
-Is there a way to chop up audio by dragging the mouse across a track? In logic you can do something where once you split say, a 1/8 not or something in an audio file, you can drag the cursor across and it will chop the audio up the same size.
-Is there a click track synth like the klopdgeist in logic?
-Can I hide tracks in the main window?
-Can I have just a single mixer track automatically come up for each plugin when it's selected?
-EDIT: one more.. how do I rewire Reaper to Logic? I've searched to no end, found nothing. I figured it would work just like reason's rewire, but logic does not see reaper and vice versa
I'm loving it so far.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Right click in reaper where you would to add a track. Choose add vst. A window will come up listing vsts. Along the left choose the submenu that says something like all vsts.. Inside there it should say rewire logic.. That's how I've rewired ableton and reason in the past. Hope that helps

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Hmm I was actually trying to use it as a slave. Logic will only ReWire as a master. I've searched on the Reaper forums and everytime someone has asked a question about it no one ever answers.DrSpliff wrote:Right click in reaper where you would to add a track. Choose add vst. EDIT: I actually got Logic and Reaper to see each other after restarting my computer. The only thing is Reaper won't automatically tempo-sync with logic and the playback head wont moe with the song. hmm...

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Use the dynamic split function to slice audio to the tempo grid or assign the 'split items at timeline grid' action to a button or key so that you can use it.
I don't recall what the default button is to bring up the dynamic split window, but a quick browse of the menu should answer that for you.
Check the 'at transients' tick box in the top left corner of the dynamic split window and mess with the min slice length slider.
As you mess witht he min slice length, you'll see the proposed slice lines change. They should snap to the grid at some point, although this may require snapping to be switched on (Alt-S).
Alternatively, press SHIFT-? to bring up the Action editor, then type in 'split items at timeline grid' into the search filter field in the top left of the window. When the action is listed, you'll need to assign the action to a key, menu or toolbar to be able to use it. What you assign it to is up to you.

Regarding hiding tracks, right click on the track you wish to hide then uncheck 'show track in track list'. To bring it back up, you'll need to go to the mixer and right click on the track and recheck 'show track in track list'.
Regarding having just one mixer channel per plugin, could you clarify what you mean further?

I'm just trying to set it up to be more like logic. In logic, you can have the mixer down below, but in addition to that, the mixer for each track appears on the left side of the screen when that track was selected. not a huge deal but it would be nice.futures_untold wrote:Regarding hiding tracks, right click on the track you wish to hide then uncheck 'show track in track list'. Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I successfully figured out slaving Reaper to Logic, it was kind of a pain in the ass, not nearly as straightforward as Reason. I could post a tutorial with pics or something, but judging by the info I found online (none), there doesn't seem to be much interest. Anway:
1. First, make sure that “check for rewire mixer/device on startup” is checked under the preferences in Reaper. Close Reaper.
2. Open Logic, then open Reaper.
3. In Logic make a new aux channel strip under options in the mixer window. Choose Reaper>RW: Reaper Output 3+4 (it's the second one, the end is cut off). You can Choose Reaper Master if you want all the audio from reaper to be sent to one track. Right click on the track and choose create/select arrange track. This didn’t show up as an option when I first tried to do it, so you might have to restart your computer before this will work.
4. In the arrange window, choose Track>New, and then choose External MIDI. The browser should open, go to Reaper>Reaper MIDI Bus 1>Channel 1.
5. In Reaper, create a track, and change the input to MIDI>Rewire Bus 1>Channel 1.
6. Under sends/receives on the track, set the audio hardware output to 1: Rewire Output 3/Rewire output 4. Make sure the track is record armed.
7. Set Reaper’s tempo to the same tempo as Logic. I couldn’t get it to follow tempo sync, but once you set the tempo properly, it works fine.
8. The rest should be pretty straightforward, for additional tracks just choose the next MIDI channel in both DAW’s. Audio tracks are the same idea, without MIDI part. If you want to record audio into Logic, send the aux channel to a bus and create a new track to record that bus. I haven’t figured out a way to record audio into Reaper in slave mode or send audio from Logic into Reaper, but you might to be able to do it with Wormhole or Soundflower. You could also just bounce the file you want, and open it in Reaper’s media explorer.
YAY!
I'd still like to know if there's a way to automate the parameter mod speed in Reaper.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
There is a way, one of the reaper users wrote a small script to do just that.Manic Harmonic wrote: -Is there a way to chop up audio by dragging the mouse across a track? I can`t find the thread on the reaper forum at the moment but I read it last week.
I`ll see if I can find it.
But essentially it is a script that changes the split command to be like Logic.
What, a metronome?Manic Harmonic wrote: -Is there a click track synth like the klopdgeist in logic?
Yes it has one.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
sorry what I mean about the click track was that klopfgeist is basically a synth that plays the same sound as the click track, so I send the klopfgesit to a bus, mute it, and then sidechain my compressors to it. works better than using the kick drum. i'll just use a really short kick or something similar.Electric_Head wrote:There is a way, one of the reaper users wrote a small script to do just that.Manic Harmonic wrote: -Is there a way to chop up audio by dragging the mouse across a track? Using Reaper 4, right click on the track (or shift click all of them to select 'em all), then select 'Set track layout > Track panel > Vertical'.Manic Harmonic wrote:I'm just trying to set it up to be more like logic. Alternatively, click on the 'Options menu > Layout > Track panel > Vertical' to set all new tracks to vertical layout.

Re, using a kick to trigger a side chain, why not use a burst of noise or a clap or snare sample instead?

Alt-click the edge of a sample to time stretch.
Select a sample in the sequencer then press F2 to bring up the timestretch options.
