Time to ask a question here...

Ke$ha - TiK ToK.

The bass/synth that comes in in the chorus is huge. Does anyone have an idea how to make it sound so... sharp? ...if you know what I mean :o It sounds really centered, like the opposite of stereo.

Sure it starts off with a saw wave.. but, what's next? Maybe it is just made with a good hardware synthesizer?

EDIT: Can't link a youtube vid since I'm at work, but it drops at 0:32 on my shitty 128kbs mp3. Maybe the official video has an intro or something, but sure you'll know what sound I mean ;)

EDIT2: Typo... the song is actually called TiK ToK and not Tic Toc, hooray for 2010 pop music.

hi, wondering how distance makes his basslines

Radical, Mistral, Confined...

That kind of reesy sound... i guess he uses a bit of reverb, obviously filters and everything, but I still cant get it to sound that warm and nice.

Anyone has any ideas/effects for me to try out?)

Thanks, T.

second
i love the darkness but warmth is always an issue
also anyone know how to make a really chilled/warm burial-esque bass
think Jamie Woon - Wayfaring Stranger (Burial Remix)
its giving me a headache constantly trying....
cheers

Bump.

I know this is a tricky one, but at least it's not the standard "how do I make a filthy YOY bassline".

It sounds like a mono hybrid saw/square wave with octave glides. If you stack a saw on a square wave in massive/operator/ whatever and use portamento you might get something like that. If you had a 4-6 osc synth you could double/triple them up too :) and add noise too! :D

Okay, I got one of these....

DJ Mujava - Township funk lead... WTF IS THAT THING?!

Way too like... flexing sheet metal sound too be a straght square wave... what makes it sound so wet aside from some portamento? I love that song, sincerely my favorite EDM tune.... Just wanna know outta pure respect...

This thread is probably FULL of questions and not enough answers.

Would really appreciate if someone could inform me of how to make the sound in

emalkay-when I look at you or

unitz-the drop.

Just anything similar would be great.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

if you mean the lead, i recognise the (ab)use of the pitch bend or high portamento values.
and squares

you can probably get some more constructive hints if you're more specific.
oh and if you think this thread needs more answers, you're welcome to contribute :w:

Its just a high pitched pitched osc layered over a reese/warm sine sub and then piched a bit... as for what makes it sound so glassy, basically the same as my mujava question.

Dont judge a thread till you read it though yo, I almost didnt post cuz that came off a bit snide while your asking for help.

Me n you both need to hassle these guys for what amkes em sound so smooth though...

I still wonder how SP:MC, Verse, Icicle, ... make those crazy bassy synths they always seem to use in their tunes...
Examples: Flip the coin, darkstar (http://www.myspace.com/bentheverse), Icicle - Phobia or things like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCbTKlxZoP0 (the synths/pads each time after the snare).

Not here to rip of their styles but I want to experiment with it, do my own thing
