Life could rebuild itself after
even if it takes 1000000 years for radioactive waste to become safe
compare that to 4 billion years earth has been here

how is going to rebuild itself?? contamination kills everything that touches and it spreads quiet easily.
I if it kills everything life is not going to come back alone unless god is very bored again

some bacteria and microorganisms can survive the most rediculous enviroments i'm sure some would survive and eventually life would continueDiegoSapiens wrote:how is going to rebuild itself?? contamination kills everything that touches and it spreads quiet easily.

It happened without us in the past. It'll happen without us in the future.DiegoSapiens wrote:i´m not terrified about the end of humans race i don´t give a fuck about that , in fact if i had a big red button for killing everyone i would kill you guysmagma wrote: Tbh, whatever we choose to harness of it, our knowledge is now at a point where if someone really wanted, they could wipe out humanity in a fairly short period of time. That's been true since the 1940s at least and it gets easier with every day. Every biological advance, every new drug, every new weapon. Nuclear Fission is small fry compared to some of the stuff on the research table right now, too.
We can either spend the rest of eternity being terrified of our own ability to abuse power and technology or we can... live..., what I really care for is the end of life in general, how can things come to life?? is something that leave me without words and that is clearly beyond our existence.
The only thing humans should care about are humans. Obviously we rely on a LOT of other life forms for our continued existence and happiness so we can't wipe everything out for the fun of it, but if the human race dies out something else will replace it... just like something has replaced everything in the past. It might not be as 'exciting' as humanity, but nobody with a concept of human excitement would be around to judge.
The Earth doesn't have a brain - it won't get upset if we're not here... and the bacterial, microbial and insect life that actually form the backbone (err, no pun...) of life won't even notice. Because they don't have brains or memories capable of noticing.

lollololo this is a gold quote for sig, Im´m not going to use it because I appreciate you magmamagma wrote:[

anyway I completely disagree with that and i don´t really know what makes you affirm that statement.
Rats just care about rats because they don´t have any other option. We have the option of choosing what or counciousness think is good or wrong, which gives us the freedom of leaving back the automatic instinct that chains animal to their behavior and gives us at the same time the responsibility of acting in a righteous way above just doing what is more comfortable.
Imo that kind of thinking is the same that makes people care just about their family or about their race/religion/culture instead that for everyone

As I said in the bit you cut out of the quote, an awful lot of nature is required for us to exist and be happy. I'm not advocating abandoning nature in the slightest - I'm one of the biggest environmentalists I know. I'm just advocating approaching things with human ends in mind. Most of those ends suit all animals currently alive on Earth, but those that don't make it will have their niches filled by newly evolved life. We're not much of a threat to life itself.DiegoSapiens wrote:lollololo this is a gold quote for sig, Im´m not going to use it because I appreciate you magmamagma wrote:[

We've always looked out for ourselves like that anyway however much we like to tell people it's for selfless reasons or some hippie concept of a sentient "Mother Earth" - the only reason we protect big game in Africa is because we like looking at it. In plenty of the rest of the world we hunted most dangerous animals to extinction and didn't suffer (m)any consequences. The only real reason we're worried about the greenhouse effect is because it might make the world uninhabitable for us which would be an absolute disaster. We know other life forms will be able to survive - life exists in horrendous environments on Earth!
All lifeforms go extinct. Our challenge is to use our brains and become the one that didn't.

I know that you are not saying that animals count less etc can´t expect less of a sensible person, but you are saying that the happiness of humans is our goal in life? wich for me equalizes the happiness of a dog or whatever animal that i like. I´m not saying that my reasons are selfless as, I know that everything we do in life if for our own benefit, I just think that empathy is the most comforting human feeling and i place above any other feeling but the fact that is for my own benefit does´t make it count less imo. I just appreciate the beauty of nature above everything including human civilization.
I think is a very difficult subject, i´m still very dubious about thousand of problems that appears. I agree in some aspects with you and I think that I understand your point of view but the only thing that i´m sure is that i don´t like the way that we are choosing for living...

I don't mean my argument to imply that I agree with everything humanity does at the moment... I can't see what good comes out of making nuclear weaponary or, tbh, most firearms. We treat the environment in ways that may well make a lot of our favourite places to live uncomfortable or even uninhabitable. We over-feed certain communities and starve others. We allow vulnerable people to die in the street.DiegoSapiens wrote:I know that you are not saying that animals count less etc can´t expect less of a sensible person, but you are saying that the happiness of humans is our goal in life? wich for me equalizes the happiness of a dog or whatever animal that i like. I appreciate the beauty of nature hugely and I'd like to preserve that beauty. However, I'm also aware that "beauty" is a human concept. If we weren't here, there wouldn't be anything to observe the beauty of nature... although some animals may have a vague concept, I doubt a mosquito cares too much about a pretty sunset. And insects are far more important to keeping life going than any humans! Therefore in order to preserve beauty, you need to preserve humanity.
I think I should qualify the selfish bit too - it's humanity's happiness I think we should care about above all, not an individual human's - I definitely don't think we should all individually only look out for number one; in fact, I think a lot of us should be willing to sacrifice a little comfort and happiness so that others can meet the average. Subtle difference, but important!
