@GV1 Digging the atmospheric vibe. after the synth goes away and the atmospheric shlumpiness comes back in, you should put a section that deviates from the original melody imo. raelly good concept tho

@MaZa1 the levels arent bad. a little repetitive but its pretty chill.

@mthrfnk it has this indie feel to it. its super mellow, i would put a thick sub underneath that bass tho. add some thickness to the track. i like it!

here's a track ive been stokin on as of late:

Thanks GV1 and -AudioSoma-. @GV1 - I'm not too sure what you mean about clashing at 0.47, I can't hear anything but I'm on headphones. @-AudioSoma- I just realised my sub layer was an octavve too high lol...

Feedback for others:
@wearecorsairs: Android in Love, once the you fancy up the stock synths I reckon this will be a nice track. Your melodies are good as with your other tracks. I don't really have any suggestions foor improvements tbh, I wanna hear your rework the synths :P
@GV1: Nice chilled intro, I can only just make out the sub on my headphones so I can't really judge well - but to me your kick needs more punch, to me it just sounds like its tapping rather than really pumping. Maybe tone down the snare crunch as well? Aside from that I don't have much to suggest, nice job.
@FluidMoShun: Sounds nicer man, really trippy, athough your kick sounds a little lost in the intro and outro, try bring it up slightly. Otherwise not to much to suggest except maybe add some widening or panning on the highs?
@paradigm001: Firstly no that wasnt me signing :P For your track, the drms ound good but the bass soundsslightly over distorted and muddy, maybe try frequency splitting it, mashing up the low end but keep the top end crisper and wider sounding?
@darkdubz: Nice tribally intro, bass hits nicely too. Your drum work is really nice, do you use single samples and self program them or do you use a drum sequencing VST? Synths are really nice too. Nice dark track, good job.
@MaZa1: Your tracks offline?
@-AudioSoma-: Intro's cool and eerie, bass hits nicely and progresses well. Sounds really nice man, my only suggestion would be to tone down the number of like "wah-wah" bass hits you have in the middle section. Other than that it sounds really funky, like a Noisia/Koan sound hybrid.

My WIP again:

cheers bro, all my drums a single programed hits, never really got into using vst's for drums, the tribal drums are a loop from the ghosthack sample pack i found on here i think?

GV1 wrote: @darkdubz - Sick as always bro. That bassline though, someone else has used that on a track haven't they? I like the variation though. That one shot bass that comes in is gritty as fk!

Some chillout Dubstep I started tonight. Unfinished, a lot to do, but take a listen.

Soundcloud
there may be something similar out there, it was not a very hard bass line to make tbh, i just hope that the rest of the tune makes up for it ha ha.

yea bro very nice chilled out tune you have going on here, sub bass sounds nice, love the melody you got going on, all i would say is spread the hats a lil and even thou its a chilled tune, you could make that snare hit harder maybe with a big tail or some thing?

MAZA1 - real rusko feel to this one!! like a lot, production is pretty good, put a few affects in there to will it up a bit, should be a good track when its done

Thanks bud. Appreciate the comment.

The drums were laid down really quickly. I had an idea in my head and needed a quick drum pattern to base my ideas on so I just loaded up Ultrabeat in Logic. But they will change. I am waiting until my Tempest arrives for the drums so I have a pet project to get down and dirty with it. Those drums won't be there in the final track.

@gv1 - digging the pad introduction. Has a nice organ feel to it. Really nice work, and really like the kick pattern. Not sure I agree with the snare/hat choice but that's a subjective thing. Kick sounds like it's getting masked somehow, though not sure by what. Might need to look at your EQ. Really love the note progression and melody in general.
@mthrfnk - you need to look at your EQ around the 500-600hz range. Tune sounds really muddy. Cleaning that up will really make it sound a bit crisper. Kick/snare combination is rather uninspiring, and hat/ride definitely doesn't fit the notes. Tambourine however, does. Agreed with what someone else said - sounds like an old disco tune or something :)
@audiosoma - intro synths are a bit too sparse, easy to lose interest. Loving the glitch-style beat pattern. Acid-like basses are quite nice. My only qualm with them is they don't really play off the beat. Good to see someone produce something that is a little more loose/swingy than your usual dubstep. I created something like this a while ago, but stopped because there wasn't enough to mix with. hehe
@wearecorsairs - all stock synths - means there's nothing really to comment on other than structure. Tbh that high-pitched synth right from the start is too much for me, I find it rather draining early on. Overall song structure is fine.
@fluidmoshun - quit with the panning on your basses. They should be mostly centred, maybe panned left/right a little, but panning them like that only makes the listener a little... well bewildered. I'd take a big notch out of the 500hz range, on your low-end basses, as they take away the crispness needed. The breathing sample seems random, doesn't really fit. In all I think the track lacks anything to really pull it all together, which is a shame.
@paradigm - those bassline synths from skanner I felt to be rather inspiring, very flat. Some EQ to boost at certain points (try around 200hz/1khz - or wherver there are interesting harmonics). Beat sounds very flat. In reality, it's a little too early to comment on something like that as there's still a lot missing that helps fill out a tune.
@darkdubz - beat is really nice, has a slightly tribal feel but I have to say that the synthesis and sound choice in general throws me off.
@maza1 - modern talking is massively over-rated ;) I assume that's the waveform you've used. Track is rather flat, kick could do with less release and more attack so it's a bit more aggressive. Yoy-style synth change-up was necessary, but it really changes the tune a little too much I think. Also gets quite old quickly because of the lack of variation.

New WIP from myself - this will be the first on an EP I'm putting out in March (at least that's the aim :P). Still a fair bit to do, needs a few really nice neurofunk stabs.etc.

@ Subfect : The sub bass is really sweet on this. I like the ambient vocal as well. Some reverbed/delayed percussion in the distant background would add some nice atmosphere. Change up that snare a bit as well imo.

@mthrfnk: Drums seem a little too far back in the mix. At around 1.23 I'd cut some of the the very top high frequencies from the sweep, hurt my ears a little. Sub seems to be too high and its clashing with some of the other sounds. Try dropping it an octave or something.

@Audiosoma: Digging the intro. Percussion is nice. Drop is siiick, nice style. Very unique. Has a strange laid back feel. Dropped you a comment ;-)

@MaZa1: Very noisey, too much going on. You need to give each sound some more space. Spend some more time eq'ing and mixing. Gets a lot better at around .35 when there are less sounds competing for space.

@GV1: pretty nice man, sub is smooth. The high sounds get a bit much after a while. Feels like the track needs a bit more space.

My track, very experimental/autonomic sounding. I think its finished but its still in progress untill i've got some feedback.

Cheers mate. I will be replacing the drums when my Tempest arrives the drums were just there so I could build the ideas in my head. Didn't spend any time even mixing them.

I like where you're going with your track. The bass sounds solid, although I'm on iPod headphones atm so can't appreciate it fully. Where are those voices from? Gives the track a nice a nice feel. Be interested to hear this when it's complete.

@GV1: really love all the ambient synth textures. I feel like there should be a little reverb on the main synth. Add a little sub bass!

@subfect: really like it a lot, the choir samples seems slightly out of time. Love it.

@stranger_sounds: very interesting synths, love the vocal chop and processing.

Alright guys. I really feel like my track is complete and is (nearly) ready to be mastered. The ONLY thing putting me off is the fact that a few people here said they don't like the way my kick drum sounds. I personally don't notice anything, but I am a novice processer. Could I have further insite into the problem with my kick? Would anyone be willing to fix it themselves if I sent you the kick stem? It would help a lot!

@daftendirekt - cheers for that - and you're right, they ARE slightly off - was playing around with it to make it more sinister, obviously didn't quite work. haha. Your kick sounds imho :) Imho your wobble needs more character - I wouldn't keep it "wide" the entire time, but use the spacial dimension as a form of call/answer routine. Sounding good man :)

@Daftendirekt not enough sub frequencies. The kick would sound fine if there was some subbass. The reason why it sounds bad is because it sounds like it was eq'd to make room for the subbass when there is no sub :/.

@stranger_sounds when it drops its a bit empty. That may be what you were going for, in which case it isn't a problem.

@subfect that plucky synth needs some delay...and preferably a delay with offset between the L and R. Also I'd like the sub just a tad louder.

@mthrfnk sounds nice I like the idea. Drop is empty, but would sound more full with a supersaw or something in the back

@-AudioSoma- liking it, but the sounds need a bit of beefing. perhaps some distortion and layering...

Here's mine again. Updated and another bad attempt at mastering :dunce: ...drums have more punch in the mix vs. this mastered version. This was my December comp entry "USB Drive" better known as Venus

I don't even know how I got from trying to preview my drum equalizer and compression settings, to somehow randomly making up this interesting bass that I don't even understand. I just connected a few stuff and made 4 macro's in Massive. Anyone wanna teach me how to make this better, remove that noisey static sound and add more of a crunch to the bass?

@mthrfnk Really like the overall vibe. It may just be me but I feel that the white noise in the intro is too loud? Second drop did it for me :corndance:
@stranger_sounds kinda feels empty. I like the random noises but I think that they reoccur to often. pretty good though
@audioaoma the intro synth is a tad boring. maybe over time increase the cutoff and up the sustain? i like the swing and glitchy basses. good stuff would like to hear it finished :W:

all feedback is welcome :t:

Feedback for others:
@subfect: Nice intro, the bass stabs are really nice and clean. The choir like vocal sounds are nice too, like datendirekt said they do seem slightly out but it seems to fit. I don't really have any other suggestions as the clip is only short and everything you've done seems to sound good aside from the snare being slightly too loud.
@stranger_sounds: Nice pumping intro, really nice vocal chops too. Main body sounds good, kind of reminds me of some old experimental stuff deadmau5 put out. I'm glad you bring that pad in at 2:00, sounded a bit empty background wise until then, maybe bring it in sooner and vary it up at 2:00 to a slightly different sound? Otherwise it's an interesting track.
@daftendirekt: Given you feedback twice now on this track I think, your kick seems more apparent in this mix although in some sections it still gets a little lost, but the bass synth carries the song along fine. No more to add really.
@jrisreal: Man that lead melody cool, the synth sound fits really nicely with it. Start sounds kindy of trip-hoppy and the drop brings it into a Koan sound kind of vibe. For me the main synth after the drop sounds panned to the right and slightly too aggressive, but that may just be because i'm on headphones. Also Imo the second half of the track needs to stand out more from the first half variation wise.
@Gaufre: Like the perc. hits but for me that kick needs switching for a different sample, it doesn't sound right against the other percussion although thats just personal choice. Since I'm on headphones, I'm only just getting your sub line so can't really judge well - but the track sounds nice overall, could maybe benefit for a second lead or mid-bass layer?

Thanks again from the feedback on my tracks, I've tried to mix this track cleaner and liven up the drums as well as fill the freq. spectrum more. One/two people mentioned a drop btw, there isn't meant to be a drop in the track tbh :P it's not really meant to be dubstep or house, just slow prog synth work.

mthrfnk - love this for real. only a couple things i could come up with - maybe bring those little vocal/synth stabs you used in the intro ( i don't even know what they are but i liked them) around 1:00 and that crash/transition doesn't sound very smooth around 2:00. i'm just being super nitpicky here, there's really not much to improve on imo

gaufre - pretty minimal and i'm sure that's what you were going for so i don't know what to say about what you could add and what not. drums sound good though, and the sub is nicee. ps where ya from in the chi?

jrisreal - i remember this from the comp. pretty sure it got my vote! love the funkyness to it. one thing i'm noticing is there might be a little click er something on your kicks? not really sure, might be my speakers, might be something you intended to be there. anyway good job

my tune - started this about two weeks ago. and it's been sitting there for a week cause i'm absolutely stuck on what to do with it. maybe that means it's done? don't know. needs a better mixdown, i know that. any feedback is appreciated.
