He's right. Too much of this stuff is kind of soul less and band waggonish at times.
Like when a million white european dudes think all you need to make footwork is 808s and repetitive vocal samples
How is the location or even the colour of the skin relevant to music today? By that logic if you don't live in the ghetto and you're not "sippin’ syrup, swangin’ and bangin’" you can't get it - or you're doing it "wrong" (hate that term btw, like there is a "right" or "wrong" way to make music ).
I didn't grew up in the States, was not living in the ghetto and I've never sipped on syzurp but I love Chopped & Screwed music, if I make a track tomorrow influenced by it, who are you to tell me I'm doing it wrong? I'm not trying to make the exact same thing that was made years ago, I'm just implementing sounds that I like / being influenced by it...
It's 2012 people need to accept that a lot of producers are going to be inspired/influenced by a lot of other music, and they might not be heavily informed on EVERY sub-genres. The old heads need to get off their high horse and let the kids re-invent the music, if it wasn't for experimenting and screwing up other genres music would be soooo boring (Rock'n'Roll/Punk, Metal etc. - Techno/EDM, Ambient etc.)
Not really good at putting words on this but I tried

Nah it's not to do with the lifestyle or location of the producer. I just mean that people hear something via the internet that seems to be trending somehow and immediately jump on it and really miss what makes the music good.

of course in 04-08/09 lil weezy was huge in the US mainstream scene. every fire beat went this guys way. i would buy a lot of these promos just for the instrumentals, but not much substance besides clever metaphors and similes

Good/bad is just down to your own personal tastes, not really sure how that's relevant. Different strokes for different folks I guess
I don't necessarily dislike this guy, but he sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much like JB. Only thing he has that stands out is that more 4x4 track he did, Rain

I think JawJam is just one of those producers that gets a little shine on a blog and will eventually be swept away very shortly by another. This whole "bedroom beat maker" thing is all well and good but these tunes more often than not lack the staying power of many others. Although not entirely fitting into this "genre" at all, I think Koreless was the last talent to emerge (to me at least), drop 2 tracks and pretty much cement his name. Anyway, I can see this going off topic again but aye. That Mele - Beamer track is big.
