Re: Beat Music Makers
I cannot put into words the dopeness that is Samiyam. Everytime I listen to his tunes I start window shopping for sp404's
Re: Beat Music Makers
Dude, you got mad skills, just build a 404 in live: drum rack with about 8 or so different fxes, but only one activeable at a time, map three knobs to each fx, and start playing.
You can then replicate the microwave workflow.
You won't get the 404 sound, but by setting up those limitations, you will get to similar places, and if you want a final 404 compression crush, or vinyl sim, send me a 24/32 bit wave, I'll crush for you.

Drum rack -> Effects rack, map chain selector to macro 1, chain params to macros 2-4 -> Redux -> Compressor

Honestly though you'll also be surprised how cheap they will go for sometimes on ebay too if you keep an eye out
Re: Beat Music Makers
Yeah that's a good idea noways, and I look on ebay all the time wolf, but I've tried to buy 3 that all got sniped at the last second. Fucking bullshit.

Don't lose heart. I lost mine to sniping, then a couple of days later the seller got in touch advising that the guy who had won the auction didn't pay, so he offered it to me at my lower bid
Re: Beat Music Makers
Nice dude, that's pretty lucky. I'll get one eventually, I'm also considering going with a 303 because I have a friend who wants to get rid of his. It just seems like a lot more of a pain in the ass than the 404sx.
Re: Beat Music Makers
That is a really tough one dude. I've never used a 303 but I have a firm belief that they have a better sound, and I think the 303 allows you to sample while other pads are playing which is pretty damn huge for a lot of people. Just confirm that. But I've got a coupla samplers that have fucked up old storage technologies and I don't use them...
Re: Beat Music Makers
Man all this talk about the SP is making me go green with envy, I would seriously would love to own one....
Re: Beat Music Makers
Yeah, I probably wouldn't consider buying one if my buddy didn't want to get rid of his. I'm gonna do some research and look for some vids on it. Wub, don't you have a 303?
Re: Beat Music Makers
Yes. One of my favourite purchases. Even days when I'm just running YouTube videos through it and sampling with the effects are awesomezosomagik wrote:Yeah, I probably wouldn't consider buying one if my buddy didn't want to get rid of his. Re: Beat Music Makers
And let me say, for my workflow now, I could use a 303. Initially with the 404sx, I was loading the card with a lot of samples and then playing them in the 404sx. S'all good. But now I'm just sampling directly into the 404sx, on the fly. So I'll patch in turntable, or flstudio. Have been sampling with bpm, which is new for me, so I might create a beat phrase on the 404sx, and then have that playing on the 404 and then jam virtual synth with that, record that onto the comp, chop that into phrases, and then just sample out of fl into the 404, and then play those beat phrases with sampled synth lines.
But bottom line, sampling on the fly, you don't really need the storage capabilities of the 404sx, in which case the 303 is the shit.
How much is your buddy trying to sell the 303 for? Do all the knobs and pads and buttons work? A lot of those 303's are end of life.

Re: Beat Music Makers
He said he'd sell it to me for $200, I'm pretty sure everything works. I'll definitely check it out in-depth, but I've known the dude for basically my entire life. I'm still pretty undecided though, I would rather have a 404sx but I could scoop up that 303 for about half the price the 404's are going for on ebay.

Honestly, at that price if you buy it and don't get on with it you can sell and make your money back easily.zosomagik wrote:He said he'd sell it to me for $200, I'm pretty sure everything works. Re: Beat Music Makers
What is the market doing? I was under the impression that 303's were more highly sought after? The sound is not reproducible, the functionality is only reproducible on higher end gear, and the supply is shrinking. That sounds like collectors item, at the very least to me.wub wrote:Honestly, at that price if you buy it and don't get on with it you can sell and make your money back easily.zosomagik wrote:He said he'd sell it to me for $200, I'm pretty sure everything works. Re: Beat Music Makers
I seem them on ebay for between $250-$350, and the 404sx goes for between $300-$400
