false
it really is, it's an ugly movie reversed. that doesn't make it any better to me. if you wanna hang out the intelligent director make sure your movie doesn't look like an old vhs tape with ugly colours. for the right example checkout irreversible.

it's gnostic allegory about the fundamental human condition of being amnesiac. not only do we not remember but we trick ourselves.

its pretty blatant that nolan is a mystic. you have to view his scripts through the lens of hermetic philosophy.

it implies someone will only judge the movie as a good one when he or she fully understands it. that, for me makes it a bad movie on forehand. i've seen it, i've gotten the clue, i've thrown it away. tell me why i would watch it a second time if it's just the sheer geniality of some twists and the reversal of a movie. if you really want to see a good mind fuck, something that has more fo offer than just a nice idea go and see irreversible, reconstruction or perfect blue.

are you trying to say that inception did not make you think? i can guarantee half the great british public saw it, thought as hard as they could and still couldnt work out what the fuck is going on.
Nope. It flatters to deceive. It is merely a facade, like the rest of his films. Interesting ideas, but nothing new. He plays with structure in a nice way in Memento, but really he just played a film in reverse. Is that so controversial and mind blowing? Inception was quite cluttered and clumsy in comparison.
Exactly, when I first saw Inception the first thing I thought was, "this looks very like Paprika, I wonder what Nolan has done with the concept!" so I watched it and was left very disappointed and quite surprised at how audacious Nolan was in his 'inspiration'. Compare it to this where the charachters don't follow a predictable story arc or are so wooden you don't give a shit about them, there's no background to any of them.
I am not sure about half the British public but most of my friend's who's opinions I trust thought pretty much the same thing as me. I know this may sound extremely arrogant and what not, but if you read a few books and watch plenty of none hollywood films you'll end up seeing that there isn't much in Hollywood are in the main stream that is that good!
Inception basically left me unsatisfied, I was expecting something deep with lots of questions and puzzles but all I got was a stolen idea, glammed up in a bad disguise before being subject to a multi-million pound advertising campaign luring into people thinking that it is an intellectual film.

I've heard quite a few people say ETV isn't all that..... but I struggle to believe them. Gasper Noe is a bit of a badman.

Eenter the Void looks alright. Visually, it looks incredible.
Irreversible was distinctly average. There were some interesting things going on in it but on the whole it wasn't great.

i didnt rate Irreversible as much as some of my mates, i think the film was so geared towards those two scenes that the rest of it was pretty forgettable despite some nice techniques

yes, but how many people would want to watch some weird japanese anime, compared the amount who would want to watch a holloywood action flick with di caprio?
think of it as translation, not imitation.

firky not everything about dreams is stolen from paprika
not everything about aliens is stolen from scientology
you need to learn more about the concepts these guys are talking about rather than dismissing them as stolen from each other.
davinci didn't steal his idea to paint jesus.

actually pkd puts it all real succinctly here http://deoxy.org/gnosis10.htm i believe the secret christian church that he alludes to is at the heart of rosicrucianism, and i think those are the guys secretly running stuff behind the scenes in this country.
