Well I know this was written a long time ago but I couldn't disagree more with this. Comparing listening to music with pleasuring yourself sexually makes no sense so I don't see where that analogy comes from. Listening to your own music is a way to see into yourself more deeply... it's an exercise of introspection, a window into the deepest truths of your being which are normally impossible to reach. It has nothing to do with self-obsession or narcissism unless you're making music for the wrong reasons to begin with.abZ wrote:I always equated listening to your tunes like looking in the mirror. You never quite see/hear what other people hear and I am sure you aren't going to whack off to yourself in the mirror unless you have some issues. Likewise if you listen to your own tunes constantly then there is probably something wrong with you.
. There are tracks that I think sound okay but I always think they're lacking in the sense that someone with better technical knowledge and skills could make them sound so much better (if that makes any sense). Usually, I'm loving a new one during the process of production and after the first few times of listening it begins to sound "meh, s'okay", and then soon after I will be thinking "what the fuck is this shit?" whenever I hear it again. Hasn't been once exception to this. But, on the brighter side, I feel I've progressed a lot so the shit I make is less shit basically.
