About everything but the Skream coverband. Really I don't care if the person buying our records is a producer as well as a DJ or not... or even a DJ at all. Anyone who wants to is welcome to support.

there's ten billion crappy dj's out there so in order to even get to the point where people will book you instead of their retarded 12 year old cousin you have to do something besides djing to get booked as a dj.

producers have taken djing away from dj's in a way. which isn't all that bad a thing really. producers are the ones making the music after all and djing is a good way to get paid for it. so in theory i'm all for it.

but i love djing and i just wish i could play out more without having to spend 16 hours a day in front of a computer screen making tunes while my wife and kid forget what i look like and my house falls apart.

this.

Also, in terms of DJs who don't produce... lol. DJs who won't be playing their own productions are as close to jukeboxes or just hiring someone to stand with Itunes playing in the club as you can get. Some of them are worthwhile... a few of them named in this thread. The rest should really consider getting into production. Otherwise you could just start a Skream coverband.
Someone should start a Distance cover band. Imagine Twilight being played with actual guitars!

also can anyone think of any DJ's that don't produce?

you should just try to get better at production its a great little hobby to slowly get better at , and as you get better and better it becomes more fun. at least for me. as far as actually writing melodies and such, try taking up piano lessons, when u get good take music theory. practise and practise and ull get good
i've done a couple of production courses and have a few mates that are good jungle producers but it doesnt feel right and i'm never happy with what i've made. saying that though i dont know any producer who are ever truely happy with their stuff.i suppose the only way is to keep at it.

thanks for the comment about piano lessons, it is something that has accured to me before.

seemed to have sparked a good debate!

yeah but i think the producers who get booked on the regular can dj pretty well. i mean it's a bit odd if your this dope producer that somehow cant mix.
unless you don't give a shit.

I've always preferred DJ's who don't produce or are not famous for producing.

Too many DJ's out there that get booked coz they have made a big tune(s) but aint really that great a DJ.

I'd rather hear a DJ play tunes from a mixture of producers and proper smash up the place with the mixing!!

This is bullshit .. i would rather pay 500 € for a dj i'm sure that can mix ( let's say bun zero) then a producer that can hardly beatmix two records and fucks up a set of an hour just to see him play his one or two own productions worth the while....
but that's my opinion offcourse
I001 : Geeks & Gaz-Daily-Jack Dixon Out now !
I002 : Magnum-Visions Ep Out Soon !
I003 : Resketch - Good For You Ep Out Soon !

I think the reason most producers are dj's is because producing doesnt pay anymore! You get a token amount but compaired to how much you can mkae Djing its not even close!

I personally like the fact that dubstep is more a producer led music. Back in the day you only was producers, Skream, D1, Cyrus, Distance all killed DMZ every other month, people went there to see them and hear their different styles and I personally still think liek that today. If I look at a like up I would expect to see producers on there!

On the flip I've met Benny Pages who I thought produced but didnt but brings the producer around to nearly all his gigs!

yeah mixed feelings on that

Post by supremeselecta » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:38 am

HEY, I go by Supreme Selecta, and i've been producing & mixing for about 6+ years. NOW, If the dj has talent, and can have one mix perfectly riding out----like having like 3 mins(or more) of 2 tracks mixing the whole time( some call it "stacking tracks"), then i have much respect for their talent. But i must say i am sick of many "deejays" in my city, who have never produced their own tune, and think their track selection is enough to get the job done. In the house scene, it would be reviving to see more young talent with the ability to "actually mix", instead of just blending mediocre track after mediocre track. Many deejays need to really get a grasp of producing, so that they can understand all that it takes to complete a solid tune or solid mix!

just ranting and raving!!!!

LONG LIVE THE STEP!!!!
