Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
This is really cool and all, but could we agree to leave at least 2 comments or bits of feedback on other peoples tunes when we post new tracks.
This way at least it's of benefit to others rather than just saying "hey listen to my tracks"
Otherwise it'll just turn into the dubs forum, and we don't want that people, do we?
Perhaps this can be included or edited into some kind of 'guidelines for posting' type affair at the top of the sticky. Moderators????

Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
that is how they operate the post ur tune thread in production, leave feedback first then post a tune. i personally don't mind either way. my original intention was just a place on the forum for hiphop tunes but democracy rules. if other folks agree about setting up guidelines i can doctor up the og post. any one else like this idea?mondays child wrote:This is really cool and all, but could we agree to leave at least 2 comments or bits of feedback on other peoples tunes when we post new tracks.

Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
do you really want feedback from someone who only listened to your music because they were required to? yeah it's common courtesy and common sense to give feedback if you expect to get any, but most people figure that out on their own. for a few that don't, who cares? i'd prefer this to be a laidback, constructive thing, not something where we complain about people not following the rules

You read it wrong man, I'm not complianing, just opening it up for discussion. It's only a couple of keystrokes to leave a comment. I don't mind either way, just thought it'd be nice to do something for either newcomers to the forum and/or new producers.
Likewise I never 'expect' any comments. Surely it's nice for new people to get some, that way they're maybe more inclined to mention stuff they might like.
And I said in my post 'guidelines'. Not set in stone rules. If people don't wanna do it. No great shakes.
Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
didn't mean to sound like a prick about it. guess my point was just that there are already some implicit guidelines, i'd rather it not be any more formal than that

I'll be chiming in with a tune very soon.. I''m currently listening at work and can't really crank it like I need to do the music justice.
Where are people tending to hit with their work, tempo wise? I'm exploring either the 85-90bpm, or 125-130bpm worlds.

Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
Oh, indeed! And suit me these tempos do... I am merely curious as to where others end up. \
My DJing mind always kicks in when I'm finishing a tune and I start to imagine how I could work it during a set..

Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
right now im staying around 70-80 or 140-160 (same thing). i really like 90-100 bpm shit too though.
Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
Aight, so here's some of what I am working on at the moment.
Work in progress, as they say. The second half is a little lazy and lame at the mo'.
EDIT: hold on.. still trying to work out this soundcloud widget thingy..

Great tune man, awesome vibe, but you're right about the mix. It sounds super compressed - which is the style, I know - but if the mix is not totally clean with each instrument in its own pocket it can become a bit of a mess. The main synth line is just enormous, but I am struggling to fully hear your drum work though it, and I think this is the key to your dissatisfaction with the mix. If you can find a way to keep the synth large, but also bring the beat out more, then you'll be on your way for sure.thomas edison wrote:

Re: DSF HipHop Dubs
great sounds from bfg and a nice clean mix...although I would have said this has way more to do with dubstep than hip hop. But hey who cares....if it sounds good s'all good
