I hear what u guys are sayin...

i just wanted to give u guys a little perspective.. i was posting my dubs in the dubs section no more than a year ago.. i found a sound that quickly got hype and sounded badass on a big system.. so i jumped on it. It was totally the right thing to do. I had no choice in which order my tunes came out.. so it seemd like every new tune that came out was my latest when in reality my newer ones had come out first.. i have been making different shit (using different patches, making different basslines) for a few months now, but it will probs be a few more months till u guys hear it.. just wanted to let u guys know that i do hear where ur comin from, and I've been doing a lot of other shit to try and get away from it..

and the one dudes right.. this is nothing new, all producers generally have their own sound.. as do we.. rusko sounds like rusko, bar 9 sounds like bar 9, joker sounds like joker, and datsik sounds like datsik

lately i have been making different things, like half time dnb, more hiphop influenced dubstep and tryin to get more melodical.. i give HUGE respect to the producers who are hella melodical, and im trying to get that aspect dialed in my productions.

anyways thought id share my thoughts on this shittt
Big ups for the reply! I'm not hating either, so don't take it that way. I was just trying to see what others thought about recycling.

thats such a bullshit argument though really, you cant compare playing the guitar to twiddling about with a synth and sequencing a bassline. completely different things.

I forgot I was going to comment on this but yeah I agree apples and oranges but more than that, I quit playing guitar for electronic music because of the limitless possibilities in timbre. Using the same sounds over and over again is kinda against my religion although I do do it sometimes like when I find a kick or snare I really like it will get used again.

For my own productions, I think it's fucking lame; a major reason I produce is to learn new techniques and try to make something original with every track. For other producers, I say anything goes as long as it sounds good. If it gets boring, then people will stop playing it and they'll be forced to up their game a bit. Terror Danjah uses a lot of the same sounds, and I think he's one of the best producers of the past few years...so did loads of other great producers throughout the history of electronic music. So if Excision and Datsik are comfortable with it, and people like the tunes, I don't see any problems with it. :e:

Thus explains it, release dates and label loyalty to sounds... I agree 100% with what he said, from what I summed, you sell one sound too a label before thier gonna give you the respect to go elsewhere. especially if elsewhere hasnt sold yet.

Now... my biggest question, is why everyones settin datsik and excision as a standard for filth...

I mean, guys are pretty dirty...

But I mean, Dayn n Dalas crew, LebelgeElectrod...

I think those guys should all go huddle in a corner, ride out this brostep insult n breakthorugh with hugestep...

But Datsik, man, though his sound is nasty, its not the nastiest, or some new standard to hold nasty too...

Firstly, big up Datsik for the very reasoned and rational contribution to the topic, it's refreshing to see such a down to earth attitude to critisism (as good natured as this thread is on the whole).

I think it is understandable for a producer to make a certain sound their own. After all, if you have worked hard on forging a certain kind of sound that you like, that you feel comfortable with and expresses what you are trying to get out, then of course you would stick with it, especially if that particular sound then blows up and gets a lot of attention. Bar 9 is the example the sticks out in my mind, that is a very unique sound to them, you hear a track and immediately you know it's Bar 9.

But where it can be a positive to have a sound that defines you as a producer, over doing it can also have a negative effect as you can then potentially get pigeon holed or shackled to that certain sound. In my mind, the very best producers are able to reproduce their 'sound' through different styles. You can still tell it's them, despite the track being a total departure from what brought them into the limelight in the first place.

Just as an afterthought, some labels have a certain sound no matter who is producing on it. Metalheadz for instance, doesn't matter who releases on Metalheadz, it has that distinct sound. Anyone else notice that?

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Incidentally Datsik, just wanted to say Gizmo is SICK, though I'm more into the deeper, more melodic dub step generally, I can't help brocking out to that track man!

What's the story behind Havoc and Retreat? It sounds like Retreat is a more finished version, but honestly I like the bassline on Havoc better, sound so much more aggresive...

Keep rocking these patches, since alot of people (including me) still really enjoy them :)

EDIT: What do "regular" people think of you when they listen to your music? For example, your mom? This sounds kind of weird, but I always get weird looks by my non-dubstep friends, and family ;)

fair play dude, nothing wrong with having a sound. just dont do a dillinja and start remaking the same tune with different riffs!
