Must say
been checking out Ergo Proxy due to the reccomendation in this thread
really enjoying it.
Used to watch a few Manga when I was a nipper - but only for the blood and the gore.
few years ago tho a friend of mine convinced me to watch a few anime with their original Japanese voice acting and it really takes it to a whole new level.
Just wish I had more time to catch up on what I have been missing

Anything by Studio Gibley is BIG!
Obviously Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, Apple Seed, Ninja Scroll..
I quite like GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka), Bleach, Guyva (the original series not those new ones they're shite), Outlaw Star (facking amazing series considering its so short).
I used to watch NUFF anime films on sci-fi channel when I was younger due to Insomnia......They don't show them anymore though do they?

I really liked Ninja Scrolls, what's similar to that?
I aint seen many, i don't even know the difference between anime and manga, is there even a difference?
Street Fighter 2 and Violence Jack were pretty kool, but i watched those years ago, Ninja Scrolls is the only 1 I can watch now and still enjoy.

I'm not 100% sure but Anime is the animation side of it? like the movies and shows.twatty vagitis wrote:

however there's a company called Manga who import & localise anime DVDs to the UK which causes confusion
Thats why I wasn't 100% sure cause all my DvDs/VHS's (original Guyver & Akira first release on VHS <3) have Manga & that logo on them.pk- wrote:yesLegendary wrote:I'm not 100% sure but Anime is the animation side of it? like the movies and shows.twatty vagitis wrote:

manga have been usurped a bit in the last few years with ADV in particular snagging some of the best series.
So, do you prefer watching the oringinal japanese audiotrack with english subs, or are you dub people?
I always watch with the subs, western voices never really work with the material if you ask me, although some of the subs can read weird

yeah subs, and fansubs at that....i like the explanations of cultural references or puns or whatever that they show at the top of the screen
the problem with dubbed anime is they try to fit the english into the same length of time as the japanese, so it always sounds a bit comical...sort of "ahiseeyouaretheonewhokilledmyfatherallthoseyearsagointheforestwheniwasasmallboy"

the director of Ninja Scroll also made Wicked City, Monster City and Cyber City Oedo 808, all classics and better than Ninja Scroll imo (though they're either about demons or are cyberpunk).twatty vagitis wrote:I really liked Ninja Scrolls, what's similar to that?
if you like feudal japan ninja stuff you might like Basilisk, it's basically a story about 2 ninja clans with an ancient grudge who have to kill eachother in order to decide who will take over as the new shogun (if only all politics was conducted this way). their leaders had intended to marry and unite the clans before the conflict was reignited so it's kinda like a ninjaized version of romeo and juliet. the series had it's moments but i like the concept more than the majority of it's execution.
that's where i caught the bug myself, i used to watch everything they would show, though looking back they used to put on a lot of shite (which i admittedly liked at the time).Legendary wrote:I used to watch NUFF anime films on sci-fi channel when I was younger due to Insomnia......They don't show them anymore though do they?
i really liked the atmosphere for this but the techno babble didn't captivate me.pk- wrote:Serial Experiments Lain is one of my favourites
