In the matter of CD v. DH, the Court finds:

OP's post was made in frustration at coming in contact with opaque software. A very reasonable response shared by many who have been forced to use it. The court takes no offense at this post.

DH's initial response of, "a poor artist is always the first to blame their tools" is fairly diggy. The Court finds this statement to be 60% diggy, as the reasonable inference to be drawn from this statement is that OP is a poor artist.

The statement was also fairly unrelated to the OP's initial post. OP's argument was merely that Pro tools is unnecessarily difficult to learn or use, especially in comparison to other DAW software on the market.

Also of note, it is the poor craftsman who blames their tools, not the artist. There is a significant distinction between these terms that should not be lost.

LfpHUNK is ordered to receive 10 nonsequitous responses in threads of his creation. OP is ordered to learn Pro Tool's short cuts and to understand that Pro Tools is a glorified tape recorder.

i started on pro tools, and have been using it for 3 years now and its the only daw i use, aside from ableton and occasionally reason. i can see how it would be really frustrating for someone just starting or is used to midi friendly programs. but like anything else, its all about what you feel comfortable with and how much time you've invested in learning it inside and out. for me, pro tools 8 is awesome. you can do pretty much everything you can do with other daws, they've incorporated good midi tools, and for someone like me who likes to sample and cut up audio, process it, and edit it to a fine point, i've found it perfect for my workflow. like i said, this is probably due to the fact that i have spent hundreds of hours using it. you can't really genuinely criticize something unless you've spent a good deal of time using it. i can also understand how you may resent the program due to being forced to use it in class - that can take the fun out of anything.

as a sidenote, i believe dj shadow only used some turntables, an mpc and pro tools to do all the editing which resulted in the legendary Endtroducing.

the best advice i can think of is to stick with one program you are somewhat comfortable with and stay with that. jumping around with other programs will most likely just make you mediocre/average at a few set of programs instead of a master at one.

Are you implying the reason sequencer isn't good?

If there is one thing that I love about reason, is it works so extremely fast. I can lay a basic track down in under 10 minutes. (sure, not making patches and looking for samples, but that is not part of the DAW)

I've always made/modded my own sounds, I just meant the synths in reason pack a punch, giving a great starting point for adding a final instrument to a song to bring it out, then manipulate the sounds through live etc. Besides, I've only had it a week, so just basically tweaking up the thor synth etc to figure out the dynamics and shite.

Try saying 'Make your own shit' to an average vinyl spinning DJ next time!

Its amazing to see how quickly egos can clash on the internet.

My question was answered a while ago.. and thanks to all who ACTUALLY contributed something of VALUE.

And thanks to those who defended my point/question.. I don't feel that a production forum where people are SUPPOSED to be helping each other is a proper setting for unprovoked jabs at the integrity of others.

Anyways, it has shown me a lot about the character of some of the members on here, and I have a better understanding of who's opinion I should hold with higher regard..
