didn't ikonika say it's not unheard of for people like skream, joker, and zomby to write 2-3 tunes a day? i think when you have that kind've talent the whole "quantity vs quality" thing goes out the window and becomes more a matter of good tunes vs REALLY good tunes. i mean i really dont think the quality of jokers tunes, for example, are sacrificed by his ability to crank out several tunes a day ya know?

ha ha and i really dont think being banned has hurt him THAT much. if anything, he's become a bit of a legend because of it. people are always talking about that shit on here or the main board, and the fact that he no longer posts yet pretty much unintentionally took over this thread is proof of that!

Hmmmm be honest..... are YOU Zomby?

I wouldnt put him anywhere near the same league as Joker and Skream. Both are not only hugely talented but also great ambassadors for the scene.

And yeah he is a legend. But being a legend for being a tosser is no great achievement. But you are right in one respect, talking about him is just giving him free publicity that he doesnt deserve and something I am no longer willing to indulge in.

Just wanted to add. Perhaps those two or three tunes a day aren't necessarily usable tunes. Maybe it's just to keep the juices flowing. That's also entirely possible.

3 tunes a day = 21 tunes a week (let's assume)
let's even be conservative and say two a day. So 14/week

I mean, you can do the rest of the math for an entire month and an entire year. There's no way all of those are usable. Anyone who makes music will say the same. There will always be throwaways. Obviously we strive for perfection with each creation, but ain't no way you hit the mark every time.

And I was recently thinking - thank god for Loefah and his extremely selective and what seems like self-critical way of choosing what gets heard and what doesn't. A lot of producers should exercise this sort of restraint.

i agree. i mean if zomby really is writing that many tunes a week, i highly doubt they're all going to be usable or whatever. but it's like you said, artists strive for perfection with each song so it's probably safe to assume that he's at least fairly content on some level (whether thats just trying something new or expressing a certain idea/feeling) with each song before moving to the next, and if he wasn't, he probably wouldn't be writing that many tunes per week. i doubt he writes 30 tunes/week just for the sake of writing 30 tunes/week. his songs seem more like sketches in a way, kind've indisposable in the sense that he probably doesn't care about every song being THE FUCKING EPIC MASTERPIECE or THE ONE whatever, just expressing his many different ideas/colors/visions with a fairly consistent quality because he's that good at his craft.

i actually have a friend that reminds me of this in a sense. he plays like noisy post punk type stuff, his recordings are so lo fi and have this childish idiot savant quality about them, but dude can record a whole albums worth of tunes in a day, and although they're not technically amazing, they have that spark, that originality and vibe that it's from the heart and when you hear it, there's just no denying it.

either way, i say bring zomby back. this place would be a hell of a lot more entertaining watching zomby freak out on all the noobs!

I have been saying this for a while. When you have a name for yourself... even if you don't have a name for yourself... there are so many labels out there, someone will sign whatever you have. Sadly there doesn't seem to be good quality control at the label level these days. There isn't good quality control at any point in the game. Perhaps the best is at the dj level and even that is debatable. All you can do is do your part. If you don't feel like your tune is the greatest then don't let a label talk you into it. You don't want to have some shite tune attached to your name for the rest of your life. Even if you get really good down the road people can still look back and hear stuff from when you sucked, you don't want that. Christ am I ever on topic?
