I think my preferred method is going to be something like this : D:\Sample Library\01-Kicks\WhateverPackItcameFrom-Kick001.wav meaning that all my packs will have to be broken down and renamed. I used to use a program called Better File Rename but I lost it and its not free. Going to have to find a new one, for windows.

i remember having horrendous sample libraries when i used to rip off 16 bar samples from vinyl...
that may be Dza's case...

Been putting this off for so long but decided to get started organising my sample this morning, shits taking for ever but it makes so much easier to find samples.
Defo worth doing if you find some spare time

nice thread, been sorting my samples from when this year started, i delete every sample & multisample that sounds shit, which was nearly everything
found out i had some nice royalty free samples that were hiding in folders of folders of shit ones.

And what about programs like: Audiofile sample manager 3?
is ok to organise your sample + song with this kind of programs? can you edit id3tags with this one?

wont rearranging your library fuck up projects that use those samples? if you daw goes to look for them and cant find them cause they have been moved.

I put genre-related sample packs in genre named folders and I put synth, bass, drum, voices, breaks, etc. samples in seprate folders.

I keep meaning to overhaul my sample library, as it is a huge mess right now...
...but before I can even do that, I need to "Collect All & Save" each of my Ableton projects otherwise it will be absolute chaos.
