she uses a lot of repetition to a different degree than previous artists...
Repetition is surely a non-starter on a forum like this? We all listen to music far more repetitive than Gaga! Are Kraftwerk hypnotising? What about Shackleton? Were the government right during the 90s to try and ban music based round "repetative beats"?
I live with pop fans. One does PR for pop artists that would make it onto your lists (Beyonce, Rihanna, Bjork?)... she's never shown any symptoms of hynposis to me - she can be a fucking bitch sometimes, but so can everyone. My girlfriend is a genuine pop fan... she loves Gaga, Rihanna.. she even listens to Britney pretty regularly. Despite having entirely different taste in art, she's the closest thing I've ever found to a soulmate - she knows herself better than anyone I know.
So no... hypnosis isn't "obvious" (to me at least)... perhaps you could give us some examples of people that you've met who have been obviously hypnotised by pop music?

You sound like my gran
If you don't like it....ignore it.
Simples.
i think it's important to state this isn't about taking offence to sexual explicit imagery ala old people etc
She is completely and utterly vaccuous save for the materialism/obsession with appearance...not so subtle suggestion to give your mind away.
I have no issue with people being sexually awakened and breaking off the shackles of society's brainwashing regarding sex..this isn't about taking offence to that...
i find it funny that everyone on here jumped in to condemn racism in that thread about the promoter but nobody seems to care about people being brainwashed into a repugnant state of being....
if you don't like racism/homophobia ashen then just ignore it no?
also how can you ignore something being brought to you against your will?

DUH DUH DUH DUH
children who grow up with the notion that image, beauty, money, fame, fashion is all important, more important than anything else
that is brainwashing, and you find evidence for in pretty much every top 40 chart hit
it doesn't work on adults as much, apart from some more susceptible people

as always magma you counter with some solid points...
I guess saying this is different is an unqualifiable copout...
just this IS different!
i see the consumers and very often i get the ones hugely under it's spell these people only buy pop music i would say hypnotises it's listeners...they clearly don't have learning difficulties but have clearly got an unhealthy relationship with the music...they even tell me as much with the strange way they try to tell me about their lives...as i said these people only buy music i put in that category...
maybe not a solid point but trust me its real to me...also there is the simple matter of it being hugely popular in proportion to its tv coverage....if a group is on the x factor the next day we sell a silly amount of their albums.....silly amounts...i personally find that disturbing...they have given their minds away but its just too obvious...
also the meditation i experience from tracks like 'death is not final' and 'we are the robots' for me personally are different...death is not final...thats a positive message....we are the robots is more them making a point than encouraging such behaviour....
the government probably did that as part of some sort of long term goal regarding the criminal justice bill as well

I totally agree that there's a massive amount of social conditioning in the world.... music, movies, tv, magazines, newspaper, general societal attitudes... everything pigeon holes kids and I agree a lot is negative, especially for women.
But what Piston said was "hypnotised" - that's a fairly well defined physical process. It's not a gradual change or 'twisted education' lasting for the whole of your formative years - it suggests there is enough inside one video to take control of a brain - Paul McKenna style. It's that which brings out my scepticism.
I agree that society pushes people in "undesireable" directions.... but I think it's a much more 'naturally occurring' process than you guys. That's not to say it shouldn't be counterracted - but I think it's done through broad social change, not by complaining about pop music.
Piston: Safe for the reply. We agree to disagree again, I think.

i don't agree with pistons that it's hypnotism
i agree with your words, social conditioning
these people such as gaga sell their souls to the illuminati for fame
whilst they are used for their conditioning agenda

i'd say the beatles circa the "i wanna hold your hand" era were completely and utterly vacuous and had a hypnotising effect on the female population with their use of repetition.

Pistonsbeneath + hackman, what you're saying makes sense, I agree.
It gives kids a pretty warped view in terms of aspiration/appearance/money etc.
BUT...the problem lies with parents not teaching their kids about what's important in life. Too many parents are afraid to say "no" to their kids, giving them whatever they want, when they want.
Stupid example, but both my parents are veggies...they gave me the option of eating meat when I was a kid, but I kinda sensed that meat eating was a bit pointless. So then you could say I sidestepped the "social programming" that comes with eating meat.
But it's just a personal choice, no more...there will always be stupid parents allowing their stupid kids to be fashion-obssesed money-chasers, so be glad you and your kids (if you have any) aren't part of that.
Sorry if that came across garbled.

to start with yes and they were given fame
then they broke off from that and introduced substance to their massive fanbase of easily influenced youngsters and then they killed john lennon...
basically deferred the joining of he club ala tupac, bob marley, kurt cobain, jimi hendrix, michael jackson notorious big and god knows who else
jay z is still alive btw...and his clothing brand has an interesting name

while i agree with you that is primarily the due to the influence of the parent
you must understand that I believe those same parents have undergone the same social conditioning

yup they happened to start being interesting and non-vacuous which was cool, but if they never took drugs they could easily have carried on the same. my point is vacuous repetitive pop-stars aren't a new phenomenon.
as for jay-z he's a tnuc, but you can't really get pissed off at the amount of artists that sell loads by being vacuous, most people just don't care enough about music to be bothered. those of us that do just have to deal with it however we can, usually by avoiding most radio stations whenever possible, never acknowledging a chart system exists and sourcing music through better means than what you see/hear on t.v/posters etc...
the people i really don't get are people who complain about shit music and how much they dislike it but still goto trendy clubs and say things like "once i'm pissed the tunes don't bother me" i don't get that because once i've had a few drinks it just makes me hate all that shit even more.

To undo all the "social conditioning" would take something like re-wilding/back to basics approach....but that will only come about because humans are forced to and don't actively seek it out.

they did it with jason bourne...
MKULTRA used unreal doses of ECT and LSD to wipe peoples minds effectively so they could muck about with creating new people with new memories etc...
Are people seriously considering that mainstream pop attempts to do the same thing??
Sure, TV and shit media output in general can deaden the mind when it's not stimulating enough but to think that a super elite group is trying to brainwash you through unoriginal pop music makes me worried for your sanity..

when so much is at stake of course there is an agenda lloydnoise....
all the same people own the owners of the owners of the small number of companies running pop culture...
you have to admit wiping out certain memories within humanity as a collective is happening....
you are extremely complacent imho
doesn't it worry you the messages being projected onto young minds?
don't you care??

I would just like to add that the reason that the director is wearing a satanic symbol on a venom t shirt is because the director of 'telephone' is Jonas Akerlund, a former member of Bathory, a Black Metal band from the same era as Venom, not for any underlying reason to do with Lady Gaga's career as an illuminati tool.
The director of the Paparazzi is wearing a Venom shirt, bearing the face of Baphomet and the Sigil of the Church of Satan. So, there is a chance that the director is slightly aware of those kinds of things
