dance music is about the drums? well I don't think people should follow guide lines like this if they don't want too.. I went to a shackleton show and he had barely anything going on in his tracks even drums. people still danced though.

i think everyone just needs to chill with the subgenre labelling... true dubstep has evolved from its beginnings but it is just petty to try and pigeon hole everything so you can understand it. fair enough there are plenty of copycat producers but that is the case with both deep and jump up stuff... i read an interview with loefah which was posted on here saying that too many people say they make deep thinking it is the best - but mud is deep too.

im not siding with anyone as i happen to like both of the sides of this split in dubstep you are all giving new names to, but i think some people here just hate for the sake of hating. if you dont like certain music in this scene, dont listen to it, dont play it out and dont support it. if you do, then support it, listen to it and play it out. for me a big part of dubstep is about unity between producers and djs and the whole scene seemed to have a tight sense of togetherness which people now want to destroy just because they arent into a certain sound.

90% of dubstep would be heaps better if people payed more attention to beats

Never really understood this argument. Maybe it's just the dumb broads in my region but usually the women have really bad taste in music. Who do you think buys Lady Gaga and Nickelback CD's? When it comes to dance music the cornier the better and they will show up on the dancefloor unfailingly when some dirty midrange is being played. In fact the few female dj's I know all play brostep. When I play deeper beleive me I get no love from the ladies but you know what? I listen to music because I like it not because chicks dig it. I am married anyway and while the eyecandy is nice it is an afterthought to my playlist.

i agree, brostep drums are simple and boring for the most part... sometimes the drums need to be simple. sometimes if i write brostep and try to make the drums do their own thing, it usually ends up sounding "too busy" and "messy" (not in a good way)... it makes the breakdown harder if the drums capture the true halftime feel... but people still need to be interesting with their halftime grooves... good samples are key.

meh, hard to tell. brostep is bassline. even some released brostep has shit drums. guess leaves more to finding the sweet spot
