Look at people's reactions in this video. It's dead quiet when they rewind, save for one whistle and the MC:

Think of rewinds like Star-wipe-transitions in video editing. Sure they're kinda cool at first, but do you really see them used that much anymore, besides in infomercials?

lol yea.. its getting shitty.. this video is another classic example of bad mc's as well..

if the tunes big enough and the reaction is positive rewind it why the fuck not?!

if its jus some bate-arse tune that the MC wants a chance to get involved and big himself/others up then do one, not interested

jus depends on my mood whether im feelin it

I pulled up Dawn Penn last Friday night rather than bother mixing out of it... nearly wheeled back to the "wake up and tell the people".
Must have greased her up good.

i would agree.
if its not good enough the first time, the second time won't be better.
if it is good enough the first time then you dont need a second.

it's a part of our culture.

it can be done well

it can be a disaster

you think it's old in dubstep, they've been rewinding tunes in Jamaica for over 30 years

rewinds are a part of the culture and some tunes just propa catch the crowd out and deserve a pull up...

its just now you get cases where its abused and every half decent tune gets a rewind lol.

definately a vibe killer at that point because it just breaks up the flow of a set if theres too many of them.

I reckon about 2 rewinds per set is enough, and those are reserved for tracks that people give you a signal to rewind, would never pull up something just because I think it needs it.
Out Now:

rewinds have been a big thing during every stage of the 'hardcore continuum' thus far...there is a certain sense of history connected with it and it can be a very effective tool to use during a dance...

however...i must say rewinds are being overused to the point where they lose their desired impact and no longer seem warranted...i am somewhat fed up with having to endure 20-30 rewinds per set at most of the big raves now...just ruins the vibe/flow of the night for me and i know i am not the only one...

Youngsta actually seems to have it right once again in my opinion...he does rewind every so often (and because it is a pretty rare thing it feels special and still holds that magical impact which is sure to duppy any dance) but most of the time he just blends tight and smooth and let's the vibes flow...

keep rewinds but stop overusing them basically...

haha yep but by accident...back in the late 1960s i reached over the deck whilst Duke Reid was spinning some dutty version to grab my stout punch unfortunately i was pretty drunk and my hand slipped and wheeled the record back instead...everyone went nuts and the rest is, as they say, history...

Well I think the pullup factor outweighs the replacement cost factor.
As N-Type says:
"if its a big tune, it has to get pull up".

I wheel it at the first drop every time. Even if I burn it out, there's still the second drop, could mix into that!
