so here's this: you should never START making music for the money. Even the most successful songwriters around today (ie, Dr. Luke) were playing, and DJ'ing, just for the love of it.
but if your songs, if your music has a life outside of your immeidate circle- why not? i'd love to hear the arguments against trying to get as paid as possible for your efforts.
Sure, mala, pinch and others may not be dangling promoters out of 4th story windows to get their bills... but that's what they have booking agents/managers for. I think plastician still does his own dangling tho, TBH
if you are constantly spending money on tunes, computers, synths, mics, control vinyls, dubplates, mastering, etc...
you begin to see that getting paid for gigging and your releases is a good thing
we do not live in a utopia where everything is free. if your music is quality entertainment, then you deserve to be compensated

If no one is listening to your tunes, its probly because it doesnt sound like anything new. Theres alot of dubstep out there that sounds alike so you have to think about that. Once you create something totally out of the norm , thats when people start to listen..
In my opinion, take a break from dubstep and learn how to make every other electronic music out there. From industrial to gaba. then come back to dubstep and see how much your productions change.

that and you have to market yourself, but like moxxie said if you're listening to dubstep to get inspiration you'll generally come off as generic and same applies for any genre you produce. pull influence from outside the genre you produce, maybe a bad example, but borgore definitely wasn't listening to just dubstep when he came up with his trademarked sound, more than likely it came from his metal background

DZA's Tip
Talk shit to everyone on a forum 2 years, then someone will try and get you banned, futures untold will make a tune fight thread, the thread gets loads of views with people checking out the latest action and therefore here your tunes.

The fact of the matter is, there's that much production going on, not everyone can hear everything. If you're making good stuff it'll get picked up definitely. I'm going to have a listen to your soundcloud later,

I hardly promote my stuff as I don't think its worthy of it yet on a widescale.
I know a lot of people who spam their shit left right n center and it puts me off listening to their stuff at all. What I regard as spam would be said producer/promoter sending out emails/fb msg or whatever it may be electronically every fucking week/two weeks telling me to "watch out for this that n the other" oh also with the same text copy n pasted from the previous spam.
I wouldn't mind as much if it was every couple or months or so i'd be much more intrested and would most likley devote some time if I liked what I heard the first time round.

if something gets sent to me via a personal channel, and it's along the lines of developing a relationship with the artist, etc: that's promo.
if someone sends a tune (or batch of a dozen tunes) and I don't comment, and then keeps sending more tunes-- that's spam.
hit up the PERSON first, sharing your tune comes second.
