exactamundo. i rarely use it at 100%.

i tried the PSP eq- very cool but didn't scream out to me that i really, really need it.

tho TBH, gear-wise, i'm really interested in that new API-side-company (that was called arsenal audio for a hot second, and now i can't remember what it is) 's EQ, for like $1k for stereo.

So a limiter is kind of like an extreme compressor then?
Yes with zero attack. "Fuck off you're not getting through" is the limiter's motto. It's like a club bouncer with a small penis.

So wait is there a Distressor plugin? Or a Fatso that's not from UAD? Been wanting for a while

^ no distressor plug, but it's been a rumor for years.

fatso only exists in UAD form.

Context i sadly don't have a distressor any more, but any studio i work in tends to have banks and banks of 'em. I should just bring stems to sessions and be like, "hey, if you guys are going out for coffee, would you mind if I.... you know... (furtive glance to stereo distressors)"

Better yet bring a large bag, screwdriver, and cardboard cutout of the faceplate :h:

I cant live without my Elisia M-Pressor, SSL G Channel (the comp on that is really smooth and character building), and apulSoft apQualizr, or logic channel eq and izotopes Ozone 4, L2, or voxengo elephant for limiting.

Antress made one, don't know how good it is. Psst... Still waiting from the knowledgeable re the antress limiter/comp that shares code with some high end gear?

Also has been suggested Digi Smack and Waves H comp can resemble the Distressor. But I don't know about that stuff. To high end for my blood.

dude that guy that does those comparison's is a fucking hero. Problem is, I totally loose track of what is going on. Kind of like learning how a car handles by watching someone else drive it. Not working for me. But I will say those antress plugs sound dope in his comparisons.

What do the heads (notably the uad variety) think about antress plugs? Ever tried them?

Did some research on them and people on Gearslutz were saying they weren't any good, but then I watched the comparison video and they didn't fare too bad. Anyone with experience with the hardware or UAD models have any insight?

Checked out the Softube FET compressor comparison too. Sounds very similar to the UAD, I prefer it in some spots. Although I've never actually got my hands on the UAD or the original hardware for that matter, I really love the Softube.

In response to the thread topic, I'd say the FET is my new favourite compressor, as well as some others people have already mentioned.

For EQ I usually just pick one of several standard ones at random. There's not much difference between equalizers apart from colouration stages added into the vintage emulations. Pretty much any standard quality EQ can get you the same results as any other. For vintage character EQs, I tried out the Softube Trident A Range a bit and it sounds nice.

Haven't been using limiters for a while but Melda or Sonalksis do the trick for utility track limiting.
