Shaping up to be a tie! :o

In the Samplepack contests, a tie means both co-winners do the next pack (unless one defers to the other); however, that's not gonna work here for obvious reasons... if there's a tie, you guys will have to jointly :R: decide what VSTi to use in the next one. I sure hope it's not a 3-way tie.

Would it be out of line to have another voting session w/ just the 2 (or possibly 3) tied winners' tracks? Just up for 2 days or so... don't want to delay too much...

You know, that's not a bad idea. I think we should make that our rule w/ the VST contests - that in the even of a tie, there's a tune battle vote-off. Good thinking! :Q:

Also Sackley, it'd be great if you could do another break for the next contest. The one you provided for this competition worked splendidly, and unless there are any good objections (as opposed to peanut gallery pissing & moaning) please go ahead and prepare another one for us at your convenience.

I hope you front runners are trolling the plug sites for the next VSTi as well. Give us something tasty.

Edit: In the event the winner doesn't fulfill their part of the bargain - choosing a VSTi and drum machine kit - the runner-up gets to.

So a shootout it is!

Lots of great tracks in this, but had to choose one.
So I ended up voting for Elliptical Chasm, i liked it the bestest :i:

Good work everybody! I'm really happy with the results of this comp, didn't get any votes in the first comp I entered on here (or on future garage) so to get 4 feels like a nice step in the right direction XD

Very tight contest on the top! I was very surprised with the variety of sounds and quality on this comp. Nice one! Thanks to everyone listening and voting.
Here are my very subjective 2 cents on each tune:

Blinking Lights:
I love the synth and pad design on this one, specially to filtered ones at the end and the arpeggios are class. One of my fabs. In the downside, sounds a bit muddy. A better mixing would make this one really stand out.

Borneo Dub:
Dark and moody ambients and textures on this one, nice! I like what you did with the filtered drum loops. Seems like there is a bit of a harmonic mess passed the 2min, maybe a bit to abstract for me.

Colorfast:
good breaks and cool main theme with the pitch ramp-ups and downs. Arrangement was asking for a second theme to kick in at some point.

Contest:
Clever dark mood. Maybe a bit under-worked compared to other tunes.

Dactylic:
Intro is not the most amazing but then the tune slowly builds up to a cool combination of smooth percussion and awesome wash of pads sounds. wide.

Elliptical Chasm (mine! :) hearing it after some time, i would probably push up the tempo, fix some percussion stuff and work a lot more with volume automation to tighten the mix, maybe accentuate here and there and add some crescendo pad or something towards the end.. i will let you critisize!

Jah Dun Know Mi Nintendo:
I like the main two deep bass bits and the drop is powerful. Don't like the glitch bit at the end, i guess its something about the volumes, seems not fit in well with the rest.

Monkeypickle:
Oh well! The first acid melody made me think of switching to the next track. Then the bit at 00:40 comes in and, hey! what`s that! Cool breaks there.. then an awesome ambient pad leads into good IDM (still that acid melody from the beginning, not convince about that) and cool breaks towards the end. Love that futuristic metallic signature synth. Good trip all in all! One top favorite for creativity.

Natural System:
Best sound design and mixing in my opinion :) I love the ambient bit and the main break is solid. Also a top favorite. Would love

Out for a walk:
Best intro of the song! Love that tripy start. The very solid mixing and good sound design as well. Really like the main dark reggae theme.

Rasta in a bottle:
Good sound combinations and clever arrangement. There are a few effects i would probably change and some harmonic stuff i would simplify but its close to a well finished track. I was really getting the vibe towards the end.

Shadow:
A bit too repetitive, a bit more movement would help... filter sweeps, rhythm changes? I really like the melodies of the delayed pads, though. The sound combinations are pretty interesting towards the end.

You're annoying:
Really funky loop. Like it. Maybe a bit too messy harmonically but in context seems to work well.

Btw, i would be happy to trade project files and stuff with others (i´m here to learn and improve after all!) so PM me if you are interested. I did mine in ableton surviving a good dose of crashes.

heh jah dun know mi nintendo was me
i pretty much tossed that together in a night and mixed it on headphones, i noticed the glitch bit was louder after i had sent it in (had it sent to the wrong buss) and was too lazy to fix it (also was going to do a vocal for the drop, but never got to it)
had fun with this, though dunno specifically which plugin it was, but this pack managed to crash cubase a couple times and the automation on some of the fx plugins was kind of buggy

So do we want to have the final vote-off between "Blinking Lights" and "You're Annoying!" to be anonymous before I reveal the identities of the rest of the producers?

Keep the final anonymous still but reveal the rest of the tune makers identities now! Mine was 'rasta in a bottle' :)

I'm unable to vote as I don't have the option too... This may be because I voted the first time around...?

Perhaps you could start a new thread with a new poll just for the final round?

Thanks

Patrick :)

It is also Friday night.

I've observed over the years that Friday night on DSF is literally the quietest period of the entire week.

Probably cos a lot of people here go raving/clubbing on a friday. Nothing is ever on round here on a friday though. It's all about thursdays and theres only like one night a month worth going to. If that..

That was fun. I've never really used that synth before and it was a bit of a challenge coaxing some good sounds out of that thing. Not really used to using just one vst for almost all of the sounds.

EZ

Definitely. I'm really happy with how my tune turned out and I learned some good stuff - not to mention how much I enjoyed the quality and crazy diversity of all the different song submissions.

=========================

Alright, the poll's run out.

The winner is...

"YOU'RE ANNOYING!" by Apastrat!

Runner up with "Blinking Lights" was Constrobuz.

...And this victory should be a reminder to those of you who start submissions but don't quite get past a minute or two: submit them anyway! You never know.

Congratulations to Apastrat!

And well done Constrobuz, almost a double win in the DSF comps!
