probably some ridiculously simple solution im overlooking, any help appreciated
Im really curious about this too, i found a badass dialogue sample on netflix instant watch. So i can either play it on my computer or tv. Im trying to use audacity with the movie playing on my computer to record it, and i have a soundcard in my mixer which is hooked up with a usb port. Problem is i have to send the output of my computer through the card and then back into my computer to record. I can record the audio onto Serato Itch but im trying to use Audacity instead. Would the best thing just be to go with Itch or can you help me out with the other stuff?
when all else fails a simple patch cord from output to input works ;)
I googled 'Patch Cord'. It kinda just looks like ethernet cable? What exactly would i do with one of these?

Great, thanks guys. That's alot of help.

There isn't any port on my mixer that this would work for. So maybe you could see my confusion.

I don't need to know shit about the net either. I can restart my router when it isn't working and i know how to click on buttons i think i can make some sense out of. I can work my daw and thats all i really give a fuck about.

Wait, wtf are you talking about ? :P There's should be a 1/4 inch jack on your mixer... unless your talking about a juice mixer or something. Do you know what music is or are we just talking about two completely different things?

the new realplayer is amazing. allows you to download pretty much any type of media with a little button that pops up. In the download window it allows you to convert to mp3 which is a pretty much instant process.

in this case the term "patch cable" means different things depending what field you're in. i think the real point deadly is getting at is how do you not even know what ins+outs are on your soundcard and how you could physically route the soundcard output back into itself.

I've never seen so many people trying to make something that is so simple, so difficult.

I use Soundflower (though many other free apps do the same thing). I select my computer's audio output to be Soundflower (instead of my external soundcard or built-in speakers, etc). Then, I open up Live (again - you can use almost any DAW or editor, I just like Live cos I already use it for everything) and select Live's audio input to be Soundflower. I push play on the DVD and record in Live.

Done - all internal, direct to my DAW for immediate processing if needed. Simple.

Okay well we see our confusion now.

And Deadly Habbit.....
Were you born knowing everything about music production and the internet? I doubt it, so shut that fucking elitist mouth you're running all over the place. You act like i'm a lesser person than you because i don't know what a patch cable is and i'm asking for help. If you think i should find help else where because i don't have the required amount of knowledge to post on this forum then you're fucked up. I've been putting up with the Noob bashing for almost 6 months now and im SO DAMN TIRED OF IT!!!

Thank's for the advice mad, im installing Soundflower right now. :W:

innit, it boggles the mind because you're more likely to get your answer within a few mins rather than waiting for people to post a reply to your q. most of the time you get your answer within the first few results, if you're in the mode creating and something comes up that you don't know then 5mins spent reading google results is better than waiting half a day for some of us lot to answer your question.

the real beauty of this is that whilst getting your answer often you come across other links associated which you can bookmark to read and you learn more useful stuff that boosts your knowledge. surely your aim is to get the knowledge to do what you need so the struggle is taken out of it. there is no better feeling than working on a track and getting an idea and seamlessly being able to put that into action. when you can stop thinking about the logistical process and concentrate on the work in front of you and let your ears tell you where you need to go with it, that's what it's about. getting to that is usually quicker the more self-reliant you are.

This whole problem was because i used google, and it showed me something that i had no clue on how it applied to sound. And habit, you have some sort of problem with us 'new generation' and it pisses me off. You look at us as we are inferior and it's fucked up.

You had some very valid points in the file sharing thread, but again you're lowering a massive group of people here. And it isn't my fault that the first time i heard dubstep i fell in love with it, unfortunately that had to be much later than you but that shouldn't make me a complete moron.
