The day people stop bitching about the differences in music is the day music loses it passion.

I like where you're going with this deadly, shit I'm rinsing (in no particular order): Benny Page, Ill.Gates, Altimeter (yout man), Mad Season, Heyoka, Mimosa, Roommate, The Bassist, Babylon System, JFB, Ed Solo, Antiserum, Zed's Dead, Lebelge Electrod, Chasing Shadows, Skream (Chromeo Night by Night Remix), Distance, Ooah (fine cut bodies remix), DJ Primecuts ( hit that Gash Itchy naan redub), Evol Intent, Primus, Ganja White Night, Gentleman, Graphics, The Human Abstract, Innasekt, Jack Beats, Jazzsteppa (and Borgore, Shamen), Kode 9, Konflict (messiah, spor remix), NiT GriT, 16 bit, (Noisia, Machine Gun remix), Noisses, 501, The Others, Project Midnight, Radikal Guru, Rebel Sonix, Ruckspin & Planas, SebastiAn, Shackleton, Stagga, Suspicious Stench, Tek-One, Unknown Error, Vaski, The Widdler, Zero G, Switchdubs. 6blocc, Boson, etc.

I don't feel like my taste is particularly commercial or bro-steppish, at least not overly so. (though it is definitely in there) Especially not for where I live. But, globally, I'd be interested to hear what folks think.

And, one more thing, regarding suburban white kids, I would have to say that indy-rock/alt-rock is far more prevalent than the metal vibe you purport prevails (though I'm not discounting your point whole-heartedly, as that does exist. I just don't feel like it is so tied to demographics. More to a particular mindset which can be developed ANYWHERE.) And as for inner city black kids, ever heard of twista? Tupac? Dr Dre? Snoop Dogg? Kurupt? Dead Prez? even Wu-tang? These did not become popular because kids deep in the bayous were listening. They started in the inner cities. The trend persists even today. See: lil wayne, 50 cent, The Game, etc etc. Music (of all varieties) has been banking on the rebelliousness and dissatisfaction of youth forever. It's also been pandering to the lowest common denominator forever. And will continue to do so. My point wasn't that. It was more the point that deep dubstep elitists look down their nose all day on this forum, and the attitude is unneccesary, distracting, and distasteful 99% of the time. More than this, there are many of us who haven't drawn a line in the sand and who just enjoy good music, regardless of the faction it's been relegated to. For those of us who weren't aware of the lines, don't care about them now that they're aware of them, and who are just trying to learn something, it all seems a bit petty. I personally don't think we need a faction to rebel against & one up, to push the music to new levels. (Don't we have have the rest of the [conservative] world to hold that position?)The same thing can and will be done anyways. The competitive nature is a natural phenomenon that doesn't need opposing forces to ignite it. I would argue that people making good music in your preferred genre (sub-genre) which is both great (something to surpass) and horrible (something to set yourself apart from) would do as much or more to push your music to new heights. I know it is idealist to hope for less bickering and hating and shit talking, but I AM an idealist. So, there ya go.

I listen to literally all kinds of dubstep. I'd hate to be pigeonholed to one subgenre.....

It also irks me when people say they dislike dubstep when they have only touched the iceber if it's expansive potential.

hahaha, like i could hate on any style of dubstep... i only get annoyed when one sound gets abused to much by a lot of artists.

i've listened to all kindsa music in my life... and probably listen to more variety of tunes now then ever. and one thing that i keep finding is... it's all good. in some way or another, it's all good. if you don't feel it, then don't listen to it and come back to it in 5 years, cuz you may have learned something that makes the truth in the music evident..

This is just a short list of artistic contemporaries that I believe benefited in most ways from their divisions. Each had their own camp of followers, and though many may have died as a result, I believe that it's within these feuds that music was able to evolve. Would Mozart have written his requiem if he hadn't been poisoned, and rushed by Saleri?
Uhhhh you do know that the Mozart/Salieri rivalry is fictional, right? LOL

No it isn't, there are plenty of sources on google for you to read. One being http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Salieri. Amadeus may have been mostly fictional, but based on the circumstances involved in his biography I wouldn't doubt that mozart grew suspicious after the incident described in http://tarlton.law.utexas.edu/lpop/etex ... lieri.html. LOL

And in the same article you linked:
However, even with Mozart and Salieri being rivals for certain jobs, there is very little evidence that the relationship between the two composers was at all acrimonious beyond this; rather, they appeared to usually see each other as friends and colleagues and supported each others' work.
Even if they were rivals, the poisoning is purely rumor.

No, the real problem here (if it's really even a problem more than just a fact of life) is how people use music.
Many people (especially teenagers and early 20-somethings) use it to define themselves and how they want to be seen. Why do teenage boys gravitate towards extreme and hard imagery, like metal tee shirts and skulls and all that? Because they want to be taken seriously as a badass by the public at large, plus they're all pumped up on newfound testosterone. Why do teen girls tend to like sappy polished singer-songwriter chicks who put forth the appearance of being independent, strong women? Because... (you figure it out this time.)
This, 100%. Music is pure, people are not.

I'm so glad dubstep doesn't have an image

Well there was no CSI team to analyze the DNA evidence, and I'll give you that. They still had a competitive relationship though, and that was the real point I was trying to make. Still though, what do you think killed Mozart? He claimed to have a gut instinct that Salieri poisoned him.

Yeah, you're right (although their rivalry is still not necessarily a fact set in stone). What do I think he died of? Well there's lots of theories but I side with this one:

"In 2009, British, Viennese and Dutch researchers performed an epidemiological research combined with a study of other deaths in Vienna at the time of Mozart's death. They concluded that Mozart plausibly died of a streptococcal infection leading to an acute nephritic syndrome caused by poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis. This disease was also called "Wassersucht" in Austria"

LOL I had a friend not want to release on my label because I release "brostep". So I am a brostep label apparently. The catalog is maybe 50% at most. I don't like the elitist crap either. The ironic thing is, said dood was one of the biggest wobbler around here not 2 years ago. People are silly. Yeah I will hate on some of it sometimes depending on my mood heheh. Just wish there was more of a variety of vibes being represented locally. Nowt I can do about it because I don't get booked that much anymore since I don't play Rottun records or bad pop remixes. Oh well, life goes on. You really have to take what it said on the internet with a truckoad of salt. I think that is what Deadly was saying too. It's true. Your average paying punter doesn't give a fuck about the circular moving threads on this site. Do what the fuck YOU want to do because that is what this is all about.

Not really sure why you're frowning about wanting to take over the world. That's the noblest cause (of course, in the proper context) I can think of. Maybe you need to re-read my original statement, cuz the cat that wants to take over the world's the cat I'm looking for.

We're all just on different sides of the same coin. I'm glad you're feeling me. I don't wanna end up a jaded ass sick of it all producer who can't be arsed to give a fuck. I do and I will. I'll have to peep some of your tracks. Kudos to YOU man.
