Re: Skiing (Europe)
I really want to go, but funds are pretty tight at the moment... gonna have a look at how I'm fairing after a hopefully fairly cheap/overtimey February and try to book something last minute in March...

Re: Skiing (Europe)
for any money tight ninjas, i booked return flights to alpes for 120 all in last night, including luggage to take skiis! ridiculously cheap considering its only 1 month in advance! entire Accom + Lift Pas + Flights is now 385 in total, budget ski can definitely be done
Re: Skiing (Europe)
If I still have a job at the end of next week I might have to look into that and go alone if I have to.
Re: Skiing (Europe)
Just came back from Oslo Tryvann Vinterpark. Very nice for people riding freestyle, not so much for riders who like long
slopes / pow. On a good day they have over 40 obstacles set out.
Also hit the part where the World Championships will be held next week. Those ramps are waaaaay out of my league though
Damn things were 40 feet high!
Average price of a beer: 6,50 squid.

Nah usually a pint, it's not unusual for a bar to charge this amount for 33cl though. Airport bar was cost even more.
The taxes are so insanely high, people always pick up a shitload at the tax-free shops
The government runs the shops for everything with an alcohol % over 5...
My brother lives in Oslo, he gets the supplies to brew beer himself from Belgium.

It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.
Re: Skiing (Europe)

Re: Skiing (Europe)
so has anyone started to look for this year yet?

Went three years ago and really liked it.murky21 wrote:so has anyone started to look for this year yet?

Get a pass for both mountains (Penken and Ahorn, I think...) and there's more than enough to keep you occupied for a week. We had fairly crazy snow conditions when we went (was late season too... the week before Snowbombing) so the Ahorn lifts were whited out for a few days, but the cable car up is immense and there's an ice hotel/bar at the top that you can go up to afterdark and get your drank on. Actually makes for a surprisingly romantic evening given that was banging out all the usual apres-ski eurodance classics.
The parks on Penken were superb if you're into that sort of thing... did myself some excellent bruises mucking about on rails and some of the smaller kickers (Yes, I'm a massive fassy...) whilst my ex was taking the day off to give herself a pamper.
We stayed in Hotel Strass - can recommend it... if it's just you and the lady, get amongst the spa... if it's a crowd of you, it's probably best to mention that it's got a no-trunks policy before you go down!!
It felt like one of the more "modern" ski resorts I've ever been to... very pretty but with good lifts, nice bars/restaurants... even the food on the piste was tasty as fuck!
I normally pick a different resort every time I go, but I'm pretty sure I'll go to Mayrhofen again sometime.

Glad I didn't have to bump this thread this time! I'm starting to look for somewhere to go, looks like Mayrhofen might be the one as I've been thinking Austria! Bored of going to France every year. Didn't get to go this year, next year's a must even if I have to go alone
I'm gonna be guilting the fuck out of my best mate together with his girlfriend for ditching us to go with her brother last year!

Re: Skiing (Europe)
I go skiing in Austria and it's always pretty jokes, we go to this town called Schladming which is pretty sick - one lift pass gets you on pretty much all the mountains in the Salzburg/Steirmark region including some seriously high up shit. Nightlife ain't amazing as it's the usual eurotrash shite music but tonnes of bars to drink in.
Need to sort my shit to head out next year man; can't be doing it with the family again though! Need to get a lads trip on the go. SKI FREE FAM
