heh??? skweee is one of the most ORIGINAL sounds out there
Do me a favour.

I couldn't stop laughing for a week after reading this on Wikipedia.

Producers such as Rusko[17], Gemmy, Joker[18], Zomby, Rustie[19], Jamie Vex'd[20] among others, have given their take on the sound resulting in several interesting releases on the boundary between skweee and dubstep[21].

[post revival]

So I'm still kinda trying to wrap my head around what delineates something as being 'witch house' besides kind of a blurriness to the sound and a plodding pace... Otherwise, as a genre it seems to be even more loosely defined than dubstep ever was. And the Wiki blurb on it just makes me angry (esp. the part about "aesthetically referential atmosphere" )

Balam Acab sounds pretty cool. Any other recommendations?

two of my faves recently

but yeah its really pretty disparate- theres salem-y stuff- white ring, fostercare and then theres the whole rnb influenced tri-angle record side (check out how to dress well/ Tri angle and ooooo fact mixes) for that

i dont think its a real scene tbh, just american electronic music which has been lumped together

^ I think you're dead on.

I mean, there's definitely a loose (really, really loose) general aesthetic happening, but past that it's... it's just like a bunch of stuff that got categorized together for lack of any other label.

There's a Witch House weekly at a club in town here that's usually hosted by oOoOO, think I might have to go check it out.

And thanks kindly for the tune recommendations... dig that IxC999 song. :4: Please feel free to add more!

the "scene" is this:

a few groups started making interesting (if completely unoriginal) tunes. then fucking pitchfork gave it a name, then thousands upon thousands of people who knew how to type ASCII triangles started making this bullshit music. just recycling chopped and screwed from the early 90s, mixing it with shoegaze shit and instrumental hip hop. all of a sudden it became about image, and all the real talent got mired in a sea of absolute mediocrity.

if i hear a song and like it, it doesn't matter who else likes it, shouldn't change my opinion

difference between a music fan and a scenester

i like white ring and salem

I do like a lot of Tri Angles output, but my favourite releases are not necessarily "witch house"

How to Dress Well - his album "Love Remains" is fantastic, and is deservedly linked with The Weeknd and Frank Ocean as the leaders of the new kind of RnB. I know how much of you lot hate on RnB but this album is great, and so is The Weeknds.
Clams Casino - newly, free download Instrumental Mixtape is really good. Very dark hip hop instrumentals.

I did like oOooO's EP, but I think that was a very, VERY short phase. Salems album bored me.

The first inkling of attention that I gave to witch house was from Becoming Real's FACT mix which had stalker - Heaven's Gate in it. I don't know why, but that tune grabbed me. A bit of research into it, and I find it is simply Lady Gaga's Poker Face played backwards and slowed down. That kind of ruins the genre for me, so much of it is simply slowed down southern hip hop or RnB.

However, despite my up and down relationship with this genre, I LOVE this

its a bit too ambienty and doesnt have an r&b influences to be considered witchhouse but maybe yall will like it.
