Thanks a lot for this reply, I will probably PM you soon if that's cool. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I'm doing about getting in to this field.SLASH wrote:one good thing is the skills are transferable, another is at least your working in a studio and thats better than construction or whatever. But it's like i never deal with oscilators and stuff, i deal with dolby specs like leq A, lkfs, dbfs, and whatever. I guess i'm one of the only dubstep artists who could mix my whole album in 5.1 or 7.1 because of my job. mostly my job is all volume leveling, eqing. compressing and stroking directors and producers ego's. for sure its better than any other job, but it's still work and not too much fun due to deadlines, tight budgets and asswipes in the industry... but i remember a director asking me " you having fun yet?" I said "yea lot's" in a sarcastic way and he said " dude, were making movies, your supposed to be having fun" so that convo always brings me back to the essence of it all. I never give my opinion on anything or try to make it "cool" because my idea of "cool" is waaaay different from what their idea is so i just keep everything pretty standard. We as dubstep artists love the supernatural and things that arent real.. surreal fantasy stuff... this job is more about reality like cloth movements, people eating, room tone, birds in trees, wind in trees, making actors sound good when they mumble all the time and the on set recordist doesn't give me enough signal to work with and they recorded it next to an air conditioner so i have to de noise de hum the whole fucking scene. but as i'm writing this i'm at work about to leave BUMPING a 12 gauge track in my office (studio) so that part is always cool.hahah. if you want to pursue it, you should. my advice is get a job as a runner at a post facility and learn from the mixer there and work your way up. school won't get you anywhere (maybe pursue computer science if you do, it seems better for the real world and transfers into computer music), it's more about your credits and who you know. PM me if you have any specific questions or whatevs, i'm always down to give advice, especially after a few beers i can't shut the fuck up.lol U can also check my website if you want ( i need to update it tho) http://www.slashasteriskmusic.com
oh also i did make the thread and it's called I have taken so much from the internet the SFX are in there, i'm gonna do another drop in a week or two when I have a sec to chop up some more goodies

Pics or it didn't happen.
Lmao, I'm pretty glad I don't have any, she was fugly, and I was very drunk...
I was literally walking under the motorway underpass pissed off my face, dunno if I've tripped and fell down or just decided the floor looked comfy, but she's come along picked me up and the next thing I remember its late afternoon at hers.

I don't think I forgot, I think my subconscious was hiding the details so I didn't commit suicide.

No worries, it happens to the best of us!
Although your experience may be a tad beyond most, depending on these mysterious details

I didn't hit it, she was butters and there was no way any amount of skills would get me up that night anyway cos I was drunk off my face.... but I don't doubt she tried!
Anyway, not meaning to thread hijack, this belongs in NSFW so I'll get back on subject.

Borrowed this literally the whole year of college... awesome bit of kit, you can sit a guitarist on a stool in a room with a singer next to him, have them record their song for a draft, and end up using that cos it sounds better than the studio mic. (H4 is sick too but this ones only £110)

Re: Inception Sound Design
Another cool thing is that the score of movie is all based around the edith pilaf song that plays to trigger the dreamer awake- either sped up in temp or slowed down.
Skip to 4:00 to hear about that specifically (but the whole video is quite interesting too).

I wonder if he knows how to make Skrillex monster basses? Because you know, that's the only real way to prove that you know what your doing.
