It could definitely be seen that way, but how could they avoid being branded racially insensitive? Mice who speak every language and wear rastafarian hats?

Rastafarianism is a Jamaican born religion. If all the main characters were white, English and rastafarian it could also be accused of being racially insensitive.

you can interperate (however the fuck you spell it) pretty much anything to suit your bias, this one is easier to do than the rest. the kick back of this will be in the tabloids, betcha!

And what I really meant by the fuss is, so what? it's a rastamouse, I know it's not quite the same but I can't imagine the same reaction out of a Buddha orangutan! Then again you had a rasta in Maid Marion and her Merry Men, it was the dude who played the Cat out of Red Dwarf, and then there's Pass the Dutchy on Top of the Pops, so stuff like this isn't exactly new. In the past it didn't seem to get the same reaction.... waffle waffle
