Hey guys,

Didn't expect so many replies lol! They're all great replies and I have taken a lot from all of them (besides the laughing corns lol). Thinking about it, I have invested loads of hours into FL so I don't want that to go out of the window. I'm still in the process of getting the hang of mastering lol so that is probs the playing factor. I think I'm looking for a magic pill because I don't have much time as I spend most of it studying for a levels which only leaves me with about 1 hour a day to play around with FL. I'm just waiting to go to uni which will leave me with enough hours per day to play around with it and learn new things.

Yes, Pro Tools may be somewhat complicated but shouldn't you read into your DAW so you know what you're doing? I mean Pro Tools is like an industry standard. Most studios use Pro Tools.

PT is for music production - recording, editing & mastering.

Ableton Live is more sampler friendly, allows you to change tempo, apply fx and play sets easy.

You can rewire in -- I do but I'm a producer dreaming of being a dj.

Depends on your ability, equipment, $$ and aspirations.

save any concern on proper monitor orientation and this one's pretty tight imo

Pro Tools is overly expensive, un-user friendly and most time consuming thing I have used. In a studio setting for recording bands, it works, but as a DAW for producing dance music, I think you're better off with something like Logic or Cubase where you don't have to pay for a plug in to import mp3's.

it's not really more expensive than cubase/logic/dp/etc. anymore ($600), but the midi in it does kinda suck (so lots of people just sequence in another DAW and only use pro tools to handle audio and TDM-only plug in's that cost a fortune). the real reason everybody uses pro tools is because everybody uses pro tools. kind of a snake eating it's own tail thing. it's in every professional studio in the world so if you track drums at one place you can load the files up in another studio and track guitars or vocals or whatever you want, fix parts, whatever. everybody uses it to be compatible with everyone else so they don't lose any business for not having pro tools. but as a DAW it kind of sucks. but for sequencing-heavy projects like dance music people generally want to use something else. even for recording just audio shit like a RADAR is way better sound-quality wise (but is in WAY fewer studios).

Pro tools is great to know because its basically the standard for most professional studios, so its always handy to know how to use it, but from a EDM/dubstep perspective I dont really like it. You should probably go with Cubase or Ableton if you're focusing mostly on electronic music.

so why do you think stuff sounds better at his studio? do you think it's because of his DAW? or do you think it's because of his monitors?
