ok got it. and tomorrows perfect for me...early release from school. already got some good ideas for what im gona do...yeah i been freestylin in my head all day lol. and this is something to motivate me to finish a hiphop recording since I been puttin my album off for over 2 years

can you actually set the length of the contest to something reasonable and conducive to actually putting in proper time for all aspects including some downtime before doing a mixdown

Try the signal chain of.....

Compressor, Expander, Gate (on a wide setting).

Maybe expander after the gate if there isn't much hiss. - Get some small reverb in there to make it sound "bigger" since gating it will suck out frequencies.

I'm not sure if its technically sound but its wha ti do for my shitty microphone what gets loads of hiss

well you use the compressor to get an overall solid level from your vox so the loud ain't too loud in relation to the rest
the expander makes it so that any ambient room noise (like say footsteps, breathing etc) or low level crap doesn't make it through
it's really handy when using a condenser mic in a less than ideal room

BTW, for some reason my fruity loops won't let me overdub when recording. if I record, it deletes all the notes I have in there. anyone know how to fix this? Im recording a complex piano pattern

Turn off the chain-link next to it.

I have had some beats in my head that were fuckin dope, but when i laid them down in my DAW, they were less than mediocre, but after a while of just fuckin with shit and really just puttin my time in, they surpassed even my greatest expectations.

Point is, keep fuckin with that idea that you thought was silver until it turns into gold.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and from what i can gather by ur sig you'll appreciate this, neither was the world... It took a week.

thing is, i usually can get out a rap beat in under an hour so i just dunno...maybe I have writers block...or maybe not...i usually work when an idea comes to me, not when I desperately search for an idea to use in contests...too much pressure on it

I got a sick beat for use anyway. Not even close to my best, but its got a dubstep type sound in it so I thought it would fit in with the forum http://www.soundclick.com/player/single ... i&newref=1
